Good thread! Can't wait to read all of the answers and answer myself. I'll have time off tomorrow and will dive into this. I regret that my answers will probably seem quite boring compared to some of yours, but as Popeye says, "I yam what I yam!"

1. Rammstein, Wagner (composer), Frank Sinatra (singer)
2. J.R.R. Tolkein, ...not so much authors, but I love epics like the Aeneid, Das Nibelungenlied, Beowulf, Gilgamesh, ect.
3. Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Casablanca, 300

Just for jollies, I'm adding another category: video games!
4. Dead Space, Age of Empires II, Doom 3

wow, you guys are bad ass, I love some of these answers, Ramstein, wagner and sinatra? whoa

Big kudos to Nick Cave, I love him. If I might suggest a carnivalesque group that may fit into your tastes... if you haven't heard them already that is: Firewater

as to video games I don't play. I can say my favorites back in the day were Galaga, Sonic the Hedgehog and tetris

Hey, thanks for the tip! I will definitely check that out. And by the way, Tom Waits was definitely a candidate for my list. Fantastic stuff.

Only the authors are easy picks for me. Bands? I grew up on hard rock so I'll list three favorites from that genre, but I seldom listen to anything but jazz or solo piano pieces on Pandora anymore (sign I'm getting old I guess).

Metallica
Black Sabbath
Led Zeppelin

Authors:

Albert Camus
John Steinbeck
John Geirach

Movies, that's tough, as I don't watch many. But three of my favs over the last couple of years are:

Lord of the Rings trilogy (cheating, that's 3, I know).
A Good Year
Iron Man

Bands:
My Morning Jacket
311
Blind Melon

Authors
John Steinbeck
Mark Twain
Cormac McCarthy

Movies
Cool Hand Luke
Shawshank Redemption
Hurt Locker

Not a lot of folks are familiar with McMurtry. Even less so with The Hellecasters. Good to see you are rev.
