Cue clips as pipe rack?

I've been looking at adding some flexible pool cue clips to the side of my bookshelf as pipe hangers. Has anyone else looked at this possible display/storage solution? Other similar hardware suggestions?

I use these Singed they work well and cheap. rubber rod racking

I put a few of them into the side of my pipe cabinet; for me they haven't worked real well. They're a little large for most pipe shanks and the ones I used have tended to stretch out even larger; usually have to twist them at an extreme angle to keep the pipes in and even then they're only semi-secure. Just my experience; YMMV.

They fit any size pipes and are soft rubber so wont scuff pipe

I have a bunch just never got around to putting them up. I've seen them used by quite a few folks and they seem to work

Everyone hangs their pipes bowl down, but I put them bowl up. There are all kinds of things you can use as a pipe rack if you "flip the script"

I was thinking exactly along those lines, have seen them suspended stem down and it looks much more effective that way. A cue clip should have more than enough grip strength to prevent the bowl from tipping out and the stem below should act as a brace. Much the same idea as a torch sconce.

They would have to be clean when stored that way otherwise the dottle would end up in the stem?

Not a problem, I only put my pipes up after I've cleaned them. Otherwise they're on my desk. Good thing to point out, though.

Morning pipe today is Granger in the Cobbler. Coffee at hand, mulling over the impact of Canada Post strike. TP likely stopped accepting international orders because of it, I sincerely doubt they will resume after the strike ends, especially if they are closing up shop. And there will certainly be another strike next year before the Christmas Holidays. It's as predictable as the annual federal budget - some calendars actually have it marked: "Postal strike due".

Yeah, I'm salty today. I have three orders for Christmas that are locked up by the strike, two of them gifts. One from the states and one from British Columbia. Anyway, this is turning into a rubber room rant, I'll enjoy my coffee and return in a better frame of mind. Have a good day guys! Thanks for letting me vent.

Thank you for the compliment. I actually got the idea from watching M*A*S*H one evening. In Col. Potter's tent he has a pipe rack on his dresser but the pipes are upside in the tobacco jar instead of the slots lol. I have three racks. I stopped buying them and thought about trying to find a big rack that holds like 60 pipes or finding a pipe cabinet. Some of those pipe cabinets are so shotty constructed and very expensive. I'm thinking about having some students at the school I work at make me one as a project.
