I have too SMS from the top and the bottom of the price range and they are both great, one is a eagle claw and the other a billiard.

I pulled the trigger yesterday on an estate Altinook - it's incoming - can't wait!

Thx for all the advice, brothers!

Pictures, or we shall shun you.

(Kidding, but...seriously... :suspect: )

All is forgiven--what a cool shape, perfect bend (for me, anyway). The coloration is smoke-like and curious. Who sold it to ya?

i LOVE that shape and thought the coloring was very cool. why be like every other monkey on the block? :)

the theory is that it was colored deliberately with tobacco or tea or something like that.

It's a winner, no matter what the story is on the coloring. Estate pipes have always intrigued me as to who smoked them, what kind of socializing (or anti-socializing) thoughts or musings went through their minds as they broke them in for me. 8)

That is a great looking pipe. I don't normally like pre colored pipes but that one is a stunner.

agreed, kyle! this'll be pipe #7 for me - 2 new and 5 estates. i too am a big fan of the estate vibe (and savings!).

Tinder Box, Doody and i.keen all sort of took the hesitation out of buying this SMS a few weeks ago... Doody's pipe had a great shape, and this one caught my eye. Now I have two meers. Still haven't smoked the other one.

It's coloring pretty fast (thanks to Penzance), getting a nice orange-pink on the rim and some blush at the heel.

I tried a CAO meer last summer, it just wasn't for me despite the fact I find them intriguing. I'd so much love to whip out one of those explicit meers at a neighborhood picnic and watch folks eyes light up....

So you should post annually a picture to this thread to show how it colors!

Full Disclosure : I'm not much up for wading through 30-some posts to see if this has been covered or not. If it already has been, no harm done.

Pipe smokers in hell are issued meerschaum pipes with constricted airways when they arrive there. That's the only kind of pipe they're allowed.

And they get their choice of "aromatic" or Lakeland Shampooery to smoke in them.

(They don't need lighters or matches there).

:face:

you're a nut, yak ;-) .

do keep posting pics of the patina, kyle! very pretty meer - enjoy!

doody.

Glad I could help influence you in a case of pad kyle. I can't wait to see how that thick chunk of meer colors.

I must take too-close shots of my pipes. It's actually kind of a small- to medium-sized pipe. I think it barely clears five inches total length. The widest part of the bowl at the top is only 1.5"!

Doody's meer is probably larger, and came with some snazzy coloration out of the box... 8)
