I have been trying EMP and I find that I like the flavor about half way through, and then something goes awry for me and it reminds me of the days when I used to smoke cigarettes and when I used to drink a little more than I should have and on occasion would lose track of my sanity and stick the wrong end of a lit cigarette in my mouth and end up with a mouth full of ash.
Is there something I could be doing wrong? I am trying to smoke as slow as possible, even setting the pipe down for extended periods of time I'm not getting moisture build up

oh and and for the wise guys.... no I am not drinking and yes I have the bit end of the pipe in my mouth not the bowl

I did try EMP early on but I just couldn't get on with it, there was nothing about it that I found enjoyable. Perhaps in time my tastes might change and I can find what others like about it, but there's so many tobaccos out there, at the moment I'm just trying different things and sticking with what I enjoy.

I have this with Nightcap and My Mixture as well. Love them to the half way mark. Then they get very harsh. At first I thought I just needed to dump the ash more often, but nothing I found worked. I just started dumping them out when the taste changes. Have not smoked either for months now. Any tips would be well received.

Smoke only half bowls of them ? At about the point where they go south on you, it's over anyway.

Well it's obvious that YOU are not meant to smoke a pipe if YOU CAN"T smoke one of the APPROVED Bob blends ! It's kinda like not being able to smoke a whole bowl with just ONE light, having a pipe GURGGLE while you smoke, using MORE than ONE clnr per smoke etc. You'r OBVIOUSLY a FAILURE at PIPE SMOKING so go back to cigars    This is one of the "rocket science" things, NOT ! YOU and THIS blend don't mesh, DON"T SMOKE IT

It's all too easy with such blends to get an ash-like smoke, quite a few folk seem to get this from many Dunhill blends, perhaps slowing the pace to which your draw would help, if the tobacco gets to 'flare' a lot then it's not going to smoke very well, getting a good smoulder going is best I always find, but that's just me. ;)

I smoke Nightcap and London Mixture almost exclusively these days, and I agree that the flavor does change a bit half way through. But for me, it's an increase in spiciness that is not altogether unpleasant, just different.

I didn't realize EMP was an approved blend, I always thought it was a 50/50 love/hate thing. I love the stuff, but maybe you don't get along with it, BigC. Or, you could be missing the mark with it--it's all in if you're willing to work with it, get rid of it, or put it aside for another time. Could be a number of factors, you, the pipe, method, the tobacco...etc.

See if smoking smaller bowls of the stuff helps. No sense in torturing yourself further, but...depends on how much you like a challenge.

Yeah, what he said!

If EMP isn't agreeing with you in that aspect, maybe one of the Frog Morton blends would be worth a try. The Original is fantastic, and Frog Morton On The Town is milder but quite tasty all the way down.
