Favorite “background music” from a movie.

So list a link to a piece if your favorite movie background music.  Sure, you can cheat and throw up something like “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” the song as dine in the movie...like a clip.  But I’m thinking the stuff that’s playing behind the screen, so to speak.  You know...like the incredible stuff Elmer Bernstein wrote for “The Magnificent Seven” (1060).  No other piece of movie music relates more closely to what’s going on on screen IMHO. https://youtu.be/u-H9lxxLSBg

Then...WAY over on the other end of the spectrum is something like the End Theme from the first Lemony Snicket movie.  This tinkley little piece of moving magic is just that...magical.  The composer/performer has done background scores for a number of other TV shows, etc. https://youtu.be/etuBB-pn9HY. The composer on this is Thomas Newman.

A lot of movies come to mind such as the Bond series but I personally enjoyed the music in the John Wayne movies.  Eldorado, Sons of Katie Elder, The Alamo, and many others.  One of my aunts always bought the soundtrack of these movies and we would listen to the albums together.

Well it took a little pondering on the subject it but came up with a few.

2001 a space odyssey. It's nice to play in the background when working something.

Miles Davis recorded the music for a French movie. I can't remember the name of it, but it is a listen.

If you watch The Wizard of Oz, turn the volume off and play Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the moon. It's fantastic in the background.

That talk a little bit about it in Birth of the Cool documentary. If I remember correctly, they played the movie in a dark, empty theater while Miles stood on the stage and improvised as they recorded the soundtrack. It's a pretty and mellow one.

Pretty much anything Jerry Goldsmith scored is great. He is best known for the newer Star Treks but check out the original 1968 Planet of the Apes soundtrack.
