Picked up a pack of balsa filters because I have a couple pipes that can take filters so thought why not.

My question is... the pack says they are good for 3-4 smokes each. So do you just leave them in there until it's time to change them? Can't really run a cleaner through with them in there so is cleaning just after every few bowls?

Not ever using a filter I reckon ya leave'em in there till ya can't draw anymore or at least till it starts to get restricted?

Not really a filter user but if I understand correctly you can take them out and clean them with alcohol, clean the pipe and then reassemble when dry. My brother uses the paper 6mm filters and leaves them in until it won't draw before he bothers cleaning his pipe. So yeah I guess that's an option too.

Yea I kind of understand just leave them in till they are done, just seems a bit dirty to me lol

I don't use filters in any pipe anymore. I used the balsa ones but I could taste the balsa. For me, it just seemed unnecessary.

I don't usually use them but they were so cheap I figured why not give it a try

I haven't used 'em for a while, but I tend to take the filter out and let it dry out (or toss it if really nasty).

I have a number of Savs resulting in quite a number of filters that come with the pipes. Never had top buy any. I did buy a pack of filters for the one Brigham I own. These two are the only filters I use.

The only pipes I use filters with are Falcons and cobs. The Falcons have a ring shaped filter that fits over a moisture collector...made of what is essentially pipe cleaner material. There you have to toss the filter after every use and also clean the rest of the interior. The cobs that use filter use a standard Medico cartridge filter. Single use item. The moral: A clean pipe is a sweet pipe.

So based on my experience, I’d be tossing used balsa filters and cleaning between each smoke.

Everyone does things a bit differently.

I usually have no filters. Especially after a couple adult beverages. Maybe that’s why most of my neighbors won’t talk to me? :lol!:

Made it through a second smoke on one filter, will most likely finish off the ones I have with only one smoke on each. Keeping it in just seems dirty and seems to leave a smell to it.
