I can't image the constant consumerism is sustainable. Guys on other forums buying new pipes every couple days. Literally. I watched this happen when I got into wet shaving. Guys having a few packages of shaving soaps show up every single week, their cabinet quickly amassing 50, 60, 75 tubs of soap. And then it bleeds into brushes and then razors and then blades. Buying buying buying...until it serves no purpose or satisfaction of any kind. I get why business get in on it while the irons are hot, but I personally feel it is a destructive recipe; because as quickly as many get hot and heavy, they get cold and disinterested. It's a passing fad. Not good for business long term. I don't have any solutions, for this is the way of the hobbyist world of today. So to answer whether it is seasonal, it's more like generational.
