I was headin to town to get some groceries, and was in a hurry to load a bowl and go.
So, I thought, what the heck , just grab that "G.H "Bright CR Flake" that I got the other day. So, I ran to my book of notes, and sure enough, it said its 100% Va.

So I loaded a bowl, and out the door I went. I started driving, and lit it up.
At first light , I thought I caught something , possibly aromatic coming through, then I remembered reading the reviews, and there was a slight question as to that, but the reviews stated, that was a sweet Va.

Zimbabwe, Brazilian, and Malawi va's...

As I smoked, I never got tongue bite,, but my tongue felt like it was getting dry, so I tried to figure out how to describe it, and I came up with "Bitter" but, it isnt bitter.???
But man o man! I love that stuff! It has a sweet smell,a light sweet taste, and it held its taste all the way to the bottom .

I like the lighter, sweeter Va's, and this one has just pushed its way to the top of my list , of must haves. Actually, It may be in the #1 spot , as far as the bright , sweet Va's go, in my book.

I think it's possible that the Malawi component is Burley (rather than Virginia), and that your dry mouth effect may be a result of it.

Googling "Malawi Burley" brings up a lot of hits.

Then again, I've been wrong before.

:face:

To me, Burley can be a mouth-drier, then again, so can really bright Virginia. *shrug*

Sounds like one I need to try. Thanks for the tip Dusty.

there it is, smoker said it " Floral"

Kind of , sorta. at the initial light up, I tasted that,,but it went away, and the rest of the bowl was really good,
I had a second bowl yesterday, just to see, and it was the same as the first..

I like it

I find it very similar to OGS. Good, but a little on the light side for my tastes. I read somewhere that it was a good substitute for FVF - and I have to wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. The two really aren't in the same ballpark, though each good in its own right.

Agreed. Unfortunately, nothing is a suitable substitute for FVF, which is why I have stockpiles of it

Scott, have you ever tried Astleys #44? I haven't and I've heard it might do as a sub for FVF (I too doubt the existence of such a thing). Just wondering mainly.

I have never had any of the Astleys blends. They seem to fall under the radar, although I remember hearing about the #109 before. I will look into the #44 and may pick up a tin to try. While I do have several pounds of FVF, it couldn't hurt to find a substitute in case I run out one day!

Thanks,
Scott

Astley's 44 is a good smoke but nowhere close to FVF IMHO

It's closer to Luxury Navy flake without the perique or OGS even.

Astley's 109 is very good as well.

But unfortunately I've never tried anything that was close to FVF :(

Yeah, I looked up some reviews on tobaccoreviews.com and 44 is described as citrus-y, which is definitely not a flavor that one picks up in FVF. However, 44 does get favorable reviews and I will most likely order a tin of it and 109, as I am always on the lookout for Va's. I have come to the conclusion that there just isn't anything like FVF out there. Then again, what would you expect from a company that has been making tobacco for over 200 years with olde world equipment :)

But, dont you all think Kendal Plug comes in pretty close?
I mean , it is different in its own right, but I think its kinda close to FVF.

I tend to hoard it more than any other , even FVF. Its hidden behind all the other tobaccos, so I dont think about it, and when I want a real smooth easy smokin Va, then I grab it. I mean Kendal Plug is GOOD !
