The metal rondelle's come out of the stem.

That -- in and of itself -- could have been cheaply fixed. (Dr. Dave's got a supply of them). But somebody's buffed the stem on a wheel, rounding the corners of the mortise.

I'm not sure he has the rectangular ones, actually. They're far more rare than the ovals.

That is a low grade GBD, and I believe that it just had a stamp on the stem. I don't believe there was ever a brass rondelle.

There you go. ^^^^ The occasional one I saw years ago wasn't even metal, but a paint-filled heat stamp, and my memory did the rest. Thanks Mike.

Being low grade would also explain why I haven't seen any since starting PSPR&R. Most pipes at that level just get replaced, not repaired.

The picture showed a pretty self-evident depression where something used to be that isn't there now -- whatever it may have been or not been.

The something was paint, apparently.

Nothing like a swooshy streamlined pipe stem, is there? All it needs is tailfings. (thank you, Mr. Ackroyd)

If you notice the GBD stamp on the shank is a rectangle. The stem stamp is also a rectangle. I can't recall ever seeing a rectangular logo on a GBD. The lower grade GBDs in the later years had a heat embossed logo on the stem, which was painted either white or gold.

"My bad" (Jailspeak)

I was going by a quick, careless glance at pics that were still downloading.

The milled (cast ?) recess with rounded shoulders is part of the stem design.

Sorry ;)
