GL Pease vs Comptons of Galashiels

Can anyone compare the english/balkan blends of GL Pease (Odyssey, etc) to Comptons blends (Balkan, Macedonian, York) in terms of strength of flavor and balance? I've been a fan of Greg's blends (Odyssey, Maltese Falcon, Raven's Wing for several years) and have wondered what the difference is with Compton's blends. Are the Compton's just more flavor or what.

Bro, Comptons is great tobacco..
GL Pease is great tobacco..

Comptons cost more because of the Nation its made in, not because its any better or worse.

You should make the trip next May to the Chicagoland Pipe Show and
Max Engel will have a table with Compton's samples put out for tasting.
You may buy some there without the shipping charges.You are in Indiana
which is not that far away and many of us will be there. 8)

I am in indiana as well. I have ordered from maxim through his website and on the phone. Im not sure what the problem is but it seems like to me he is reluctant to do business with me. I have also read on another forum about how someone bought from him and didnt recieve thier tobac for 3 months or so. The last order i made he just decided he wasnt going to fill the order for what i paid for he shorted me 100 grams of one of his blends so i guess i am out 27 bucks. I want the guys business i would like to stock up on his tobac but every time i try to get some of it he seems like he just blows me off . Im really disappointed in that. Not many folks are willing to spend as much as his tobac costs yet i am willing to buy in bulk and he wont sell it. If anyone has any ideas please lemme know if there is anyway i can get some of his York and macedonian and scottish mix I would love to have up to 1,000$ worth of it but he wont sell me it ................ RATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three things:

Maybe you wanting to buy bulk puts him off when as it is he has to make everyone wait until he gets this or that ingredient or the other reasons he states for the long wait. He makes the statement that if he can get a certain tobacco that he feels is superior, but he has to wait to get it, then he won't blend until he gets it.

I've only bought pipes from him in the past, but he seemed ready and willing to do business with what he has on hand. Maybe you have perceived that he doesn't want to do business with you, but I doubt that that is the case.

If you think he won't sell you the tobacco, maybe don't talk to him by phone but just purchase through the website. Yes, he'd see your name when he ships, but it would still be less exposure.

Yeah i have thought of having someone else order for me and just give them the cash. The last order though he shorted me 100 grams of tobacco that i ordered online. Hope i can get that. 27 bucks is 27 bucks....
