For the past week or more I've had the "funk".

All to say that whatever I smoke tastes like nothing, or pretty close to it.

No cold or flu, and food and beverage tastes fine.

I've gone through this before with cigars, and the usual routine is to stop smoking for a while. Then the taste comes back.

Haven't done this yet on the pipe thing, but think the funk is on its way out.

Currently smoking a bowl of my favorite VaPer 2015 w/15% added perique and it's performing pretty good. Not 100%, but I can taste it.

Time will tell if it's passed. Hate not being able to enjoy a good smoke!

RR

is "the funk" something common? never had it, myself.

doody.
James Brown had it.
I believe the cure was to step back, and kiss himself... :afro:

Grow an Afro and get some platform shoes and wide bottom bell bottoms and it'll all be better

I know often I'll smoke either too much, or too much of the wrong thing, and my palate simply goes dead. Everything tastes the same. I think we've quasi-colloquially called it "fatigue," but I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, Rande.

Is your sensory system in a funk (depressed), or does your tobacco taste funky when you smoke?

I'm going through bouts of something similar. I can taste the tobac for two-three days and then nothing for a week or so. I say if "I can't taste it I waste it" so when that happens I switch to Carter Hall and can taste something...barely.

Call it "fatigue" or whatever you prefer. I call it the "funk".

It's a term I picked up on my cigar forum indicating nothing much tastes of anything.

Whatever..........

Well, the funk seems to continue.

What was that mouthwash that some claimed to help with tongue bite? Oxi-something or other? Maybe this will help.

Really hate to not being able to enjoy pipe 'baccy properly.

:x

TIA

Ouch! Doesn't sound nice. :x

I sometimes have days on any tobacco tastes like glue. Can't really explain it otherwise, just like glue.

Hope you regain your tastebuds soon.

some of rob's nyquil blend should do the trick. or some blending perique will wake you up... try a spritz of tobasco for the real louisiana experience. all kidding aside, let us know what works.

Here you go, Brewdude. This will cure what ails ya:

Tequila and shot of Nyquil added to a mixture of Paladin, Captain Black Cherry, and Mixture #79 - along with a little ground-up Swisher Sweet for that Fine Cigar Leaf 'something special'

I was not kidding about the Guinness. It brings out a lot of flavor in tobacco. At least for me.

Most darker beers will--same reason coffee will--there's something related to the smoke/heat/fire process (and application) of it all that is interconnected with most people's palates.
