Mike,

Based on the smell of the briar while it is being shaped/drilled, do you toss blocks that don't meet your olfactory specifications?

Can't answer for Mike, but I do. Had one just the other day that felt real funny and even if it hadn't had a gigantic flaw in it, as soon as I drilled it, I was thinking "I don't want to sell this pipe". It felt, smelled, and machined differently than the briar I think of as good stuff.
