Finally got round to signing up, have read a lot of posts on here in the past and now im here to join in the debate

I am a fellow YouTube pipe presenter, have been for about 8 months (i think). I do reviews(Snuff, Pipe/Rolling Tobaccos, Cigars), info videos, news on the UK tobacco trade and general banter. Please feel free to have a watch of my videos

I also run a blog, which i started 2 years ago. Its not being updated as much these days, youtube i better outlet for my opinions i find now. But again feel free tp have a look around

I setup and run the Nottingham Pipe Club, we meet once a month at the Lincolnshire Poacher and its all good fun.

Also i am the Manager of a specialist tobacconist in the UK, i wont spam the name or URL but we are in Nottingham(UK) and have been trading since 1880. In the shop i am the in house blender and one of the last few in the UK. I make about 8 standards blends, some are seasonal and also have a large collection of blends i created/make for customers.

In the near future i plan on launching my own label of tobaccos, i have about 12 blends that are ready to go, i just needs funds, time and a partner to do this with......

Hope to make many friends here and share my experiences of the tobacco world, but from a retailers perspective. I will not use my stay here for advertising the shop as i dont need to, my love for the leaf & briar is more than 9-5 or 8:00-5:30.

Welcome. I hope your new blends might be available on our side of the Pond? I should think the U.S. market is one of the larger ones world wide (though I really don't know for sure which country consumes the most pipe tobacco).

I wish i could, i would need to get my self setup with a "Bonded Factory" to avoud paying the £92 per kilo duty. Not only that, to import to America the tobaccos need approval by the FDA and its hard to do. The Gawiths & Germains have an easy time due to the length of time they have been exporting there.

My only option really is get one of those to make the blend and export for me. But that means sharing my recipes and stopping me from getting my hands dirty!

I would love to, but its a logistical nightmare. It would be easier for me to setup over there and reimport to the UK

It would be a great market to break into

Welcome from a long time anglophile.

Visited your fair hamlet several times. A memorable time was had at Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem many years ago, back before GK took it over ('97 I think). Hardy and Hansons fare was on handpump then, fine it were, and no mistake! Had a great lunchtime session and an outstanding meal.

I'm a huge real ale fan, and being a brewer by trade I appreciate a well kept pint!

Never heard that one before, but it sounds right. I went on a trade trip to cuba with a bunch from London who didnt believe that we all pretty much prefer our ales over larger.

We used to go there a lot a winter, a little easier to get to the bar and you can have a few games on the horn. Trip never tasted the same after HH moved the production and started making it in larger batches.

Oh we do love our ales, you struggle to find a pub that hasnt got a good selection of cask ales now(which is good, no fizzy cat pi$$ for me). Blue Monkey, Castle Rock or Nottingham brewery. The pub we run the pipe club at has one of the best selections in the city. Paring tobaccos with ales is always good fun.

It would great to have some new blenders in England as it gets quite annoying reading about all the blends coming from the US that we cannot get in the UK.

That ditty comes from a CD compilation of old UK drinking songs entitled " The Tale Of Ale" by Vic Gammon. Circa '93. Great stuff. pm me if you'd like a dub.

Paypal wont allow tobacco sales, its crazy. As far as i know the PACT ACT(FDA) restricts us aswell.
