Hello fellas.
I came back to my pipes about a year ago after a long hiatus. I lit my first Grabow back in my early 20's, mainly to give up cigarettes. I was that eccentric kid the bar who looked too young for the beard on his face, let alone the pipe in his mouth, but it worked for me and I enjoyed it. My taste it pipes and tobacco matured over the years and I built a small but respectable collection of decent briar. Then I spent most of my 30's married to a heavy cigarette smoker. (I mean she smoked a lot; SHE wasn't heavy, just a little plump from certain angles. ) Anyway, that pretty much turned me back into a cigarette smoker myself. Seems that change wasn't enough, though. We divorced 18 months ago and I found myself single, in my 40's, and smoking two packs a day. "Time for a change," I said. I decided to dust off my old pipes and see if they could help. To my surprise, it worked wonders. Within a month, I had reduced my smoking by 90%! Even with the emotional stress of divorce. It turns out I ENJOY the pipe more, and I think my time away from it has given me a greater appreciation of its subtleties. Finding this online community is the icing on my cake. (Or, more appropriately, the cake in my briar.) I look forward to learning from all of you and sharing my experiences.
p.s. anyone from the Kalamazoo area, speak up!
