Good that your "on the road again" Wiz. And, making good progress. I like that "desolate country" a lot. I guess I am a desert rat at heart.

Where are you turning off I 80 and heading to Oregon?

Good to hear that you were stranded only temporarily. Funny how everyone dreads that type of breakdown, though we've all had them. I was once motoring east bound on I-90 in my '66 Chevy convertible when I heard a noise from underneath. I learned what it was some ways down the road when I tried to exit and found my clutch linkage had fallen off. The toll taker gave me directions to the nearest dealership. Somehow I managed to remember all the turns while shifting the standard shift with no clutch. They had the parts and put me on the road again in half an hour. Smooth sailing and friendly police officers to you the rest of the way.
 
Don't know how you're doing re finding wifi or whatever it is you need log in...but...

You might keep a weather eye out re predicted heat wave...on its way big time for this Saturday and Sundry. In short, if there's a choice re routes, etc., GO NORTH YOUNG MAN!

Portland is headed to a 5pm high of close to 100 F for Sunday and very close to it for Saturday.

Oh...and avoid Texas flooding of course.

Made it to Huntsville, Utah, around 1700 hours. Got the first real meal in a couple of days. "Texas style BBQ". (shrug) Whatever they want to call it, it was fine. It seems my friend in Mormanland will not be able to accompany me on the last leg of my exodus. We stayed up late and discussed social, philosophical and ethical topics, laughed at ourselves and smoked our pipes. As it has been over 5 years since we had laid eyes on each other, it was good for my heart to see the cancer had not taken as great a visual toll as my mind's eye had envisioned.


So I am considering a short layover today. There is much to do here at his place that he was unable to get done during his treatment, and I would be the one to remedy that.

Thanks to you all for your comments and reveries. Yes, other than Medicine Bow and road construction there was not much to see on my route. I did stop by Little America, a glorified truck stop in the middle of the Wyoming moonscape... Very curious place indeed.....

 Alrighty, enough silliness, time to get on the good foot and do the bad thing. Showered, shaved, wait, scratched, not shaved, and ready to roll.

A nice big bowl of Bagpiper's Dream and a french roast coffee is the starter gun.

 Next stop, Idaho..........
 
A perfect tune for rolling through Pendleton, Oregon. Signs are saying that 84 is closed at The Dalles, so I may have to go through Tyhe Valley and then over mt Hood. Ah yes, the scenic route.....
 
If you can go over to the Washington side at the Dalles. then back to 84 at White Salmon. Train derailment and fire.
 
What a great road trip so far. And you picked a fine time weather-wise to come. Hope the rest of the journey proves rewarding Ozzie!

Or stay on 14 / to Cascade Locks and cross over or go all the way to Vancouver and then South on I 5 then I 205 to Oregon City

Got caught at the the Dallas hydroelectric dam. Parked. Yuppers, black smoke in the distance. Called the client and they said that would make me too late for getting to the project....


So....

Going to get off where I can, grab some food, fuel and beverages, and go catch the evening bite on the Deschutes river, have some quiet time, fly fish and sleep. Then go to Oregon City in the morning, after the morning bite of course :D . Got to make the best of it, right?
