I leave (as soon as my alb is out of the drier) for a clergy retreat. I am not sure what internet access will be. I know the cell access is really bad. So - I will probably be off the grid for a few days hanging at the convent. For some unknown reason I was asked to be the celebrant for today's Mass, but after that I am the fly on the wall and am not working this one.

Pipe and tobacco inventory for the trip:
a Kirsten, a cob, and 2 Petersons (all packed in BB pipe socks)
LBF and MacB's Navy Flake

There will be 4 or 5 of us on retreat who are pipe smokers. One of them smokes more than Jim and only has one pipe as close as I can tell - you think I jest. It will be a good time.

See you on the other side.

Whoa! Not yet, Padre! I've got miles to go and promises to keep.

Seriously, staying at a retreat with pipe-smoking colleagues? Not too shabby. Enjoy yourselves, if that's permitted.

I hope you have an enriching experience, and lots of time to meditate over a good pipe!

You oughta pack a copy of Life of Pi as reading material. And don't forget pipe cleaners. I often forget or underpack them:)

The convent has guest access to wi-fi in one part of the retreat center - but not in the section with the rooms. It has been very nice so far. It is a treat to read corporate Compline, etc. I appreciate all the good wishes.

I can't believe you didn't take a tin of Presbyterian to the Retreat !!   (ya don't have to smoke it, just set it out for folks to see   )

I am back - rested and ready. I have a couple of services today and a planning session with the Hispanic lay minister, but I came home to answer emails and tie up loose ends first.

I had hoped to get a picture of the "Fathers of Briar" at the retreat. It did not happen.

Pipe and tobacco report:

Fr. M, who smokes only Troost and buys it by the pallet, let me take a look at his only pipe I have ever seen him smoke. It is a straight billiard with a volcano(ish) bowl. It said C&D on the side. Fr. H was smoking a Graybow Lark and may have been smoking MacB's Navy Mixture. Fr. M2 had a bent billiard with a green/gray marble lucite stem. He is a big fan of the lat bombs, but he had his tobacco in a pouch, and I never asked just what the lat bomb du jour was.

Father Tom,
Religious references aside, if you like Balkans, you really should give this one a try. I'm a former 759 smoker and though this one's not near as Lat heavy as that one was, it's a smooth, full smoke that one could smoke all day IMHO. I try and have at least a bowl of it every day now. :p

I like balkans, but I don't find I need a steady diet. Having said this, I seem to go through phases. I got some Presbyterian Mix from Simple Man, and it should be arriving soon. It is one of those blends I have been aware of and just never tried.
