I can't resist a Sebastien Beo plug here (and no, I'm not affiliated with this pipe maker...though that is a job I would probably take if it were offered).  I have three of these pipes and every one is flawless.  By flawless, I am referring to drilling, shaping, and general engineering.  Yes, they run small, but they smoke so well as to allow two bowls in a row, so problem solved.  And the grain is consistently very good.  No fills, no not one.  $80 a piece.

In my experience/opinion, what do you get for more money: better grain (sometimes), silver/gold trimmings, a length of bamboo (I admit total ignorance of the bamboo appeal; I just don't get it, but then I've also never smoked it), and everything that does not pertain to a good smoking experience.

So that's me.  I wonder sometimes why more people aren't raving about Beos.  I've spent plenty of money in $80 increments for fills, loose tenons, and poor drilling from other brands.  With my three Beos I think I've achieved pipe contentment.  (Of course, I'm also the type of person who would gladly go back to crank-operated car windows, if that says anything about my tastes.)

I ordered a Beo, and promptly returned it upon receipt for fear I'd snap it in half accidentally. It was a lovely pipe, but so diminutive as to seem more suited to a leprechaun then a man of my substantive stature.

That said; I've been thinking of experimenting with the strong rope tobaccos, and a wee Beo might be just right for that.
