I've been sittin' there laughing my butt at those guys for hours,.....cold beer, deep fried black-eyed peas and the Three Stooges!! It don't get much better'n that!

A friend of mine kept a pen pal thing going with Larry in his final years, when he was in a retirement home. Even visited him a couple of times. Said he was one of the most kind and gentle people ever born. Never lost his goofy sense of humor, either. Used to say something dumb deliberately, then stop talking and freeze with his chin stuck out a little. After a few seconds you'd ask, "Are you OK, Larry?" and he'd say, "Sorry. Bad habit. I'm waitin' for someone to hit me."

I didn't realize until just a few years ago how badly the Howard brothers and Larry were exploited and abused by agents and studios throughout their careers, either. Hollywood's Dark Side was just as active then as it is now, apparently. :x
