I can sometimes experience a good half dozen poor-tasting bowls after the salt treatment. I've considered not using it anymore because of that.

My interpretation of that post was "re-engineering" was about re-boring the draw hole, etc. Not about briar curing or briar source.

I´ve gone to using cotton balls instead of salt now, for the same reason. I had a pipe last summer that really took a while to get past the salt effect.
