My boss wants to be committed to his employees beyond just giving them work. He has made offers to pay for schooling, whether in the trades or otherwise, to any of the employees as one of his initiatives to help them reach their life goals. But when he asked me about mine, I told him that going to school won't really help me. What I would like to do is work towards becoming a full time pipe maker. So as of next week I am allowed to go home at lunch time on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and he is going to pay for two of those six hours. This will allow me two half days, and one full day to work on my pipes every week, while still having a sabbath on Sunday, and taking time to spend with wife and community throughout the week.

I am pretty stoked

An oft overused word, but that is awesome!

Sounds like a very decent guy. Good for you and good on him!

Well I can tell that you aren't working for a big corporation!
Sounds like an outstanding place to work at and an outstanding boss!

Actually some big corporations are doing this kind of stuff as well. I am a fan of small neighborhood based stuff, but credit has to go where it is do. Many companies, are actually doing some amazing things for their employees now.

Who ever heard of such a thing,,,I can only conclude he's an alien in a human body.

good work brother! i bet the boss is just hoping for a pipe for his birthday :D

i'm jealous! my new position (starting at some point soon) will only allow me less time to make pipes. i guess work while i'm young, craft when i can.

Truly, the only logical explanation!!!

That is awesome, rev! Can't wait to see the fruits of your labor!

Wow rev!

That's almost entirely unheard of in today's corporate climate where employees are usually considered to be overhead.

Sounds like a real human being. Can you imagine what things would be like if more people were like that instead of being concerned only for the bottom dollar?

He's a keeper!

Congrats Rev & hats off to your boss. You must be Happy Happy Happy.

Well, it's also a good thing you didn't tell him you were an aspiring stripper. :D

My first thought exactly. Nice to see there are still some around.....

.....outside of this board, obviously.

That really is cool, Rev. As I get older I often think I wouldn't mind trading some income for more time off. Kinda a "quality of life" thing.
