hygrometers

Wondering if anyone else is having bad luck with those little hygrometers. They're black, about 1"x2", 2 batteries, and the humidity numbers seem to be way off.

There are a few methods of calibrating hydrometers but I use 2 of the cheap digital meters in my coolidors. I figure if they are reading within a couple of points of each other they’re accurate enough.

You can salt test them and then make the proper adjustments. Dampen salt in clear Tupperware, seal, and see what number you get in 6 hours. It should be 75%.

I have not had a good experience any of the electric hygrometers that show up here. The old non electric types are consistent and reliable.

I have the exact opposite experience. I just bought a six pack of hygrometers from Amazon and there were two at 75%, one was 74%, and two were 76%. I just put -1, +1, and checkmarks in Sharpie and called it a day. $6.50 total. Mischief managed.

What did the 6th one indicate? Did the reported average agree with your neuroleptic assessment?
