Well, not today, but I tried it the other day when at Tinder Box. I had forgotten my pipes and really needed the respite and chill atmosphere of the B&M that day--feeling a bit anxious and melancholy about my upcoming move.
A new cob and a new mixture--I'm glad I made that choice. Tinder Box had these odd MM "tall Washington" models with a hardwood plug. It was hard to resist, though I'm not sure exactly what model it is. I'm glad to have it, though.
Skiff, as usual with SG, was moist, and my quirk of taking lidfull outside and letting some dry in front of the store (in the sun, no less) makes people think I lost my marbles, but it was a necessary thing to do. They're used to my proclivities. The smell was spicy and Latakia--a lot stronger of a scent in the tin than I had anticipated. Many claim this is the toned-down variant of Squadron Leader, but I'd put it in a class all unto itself.
Nuttier, grassier and with some complex spice, it's a nice, mellow smoke. Yeah, there's Latakia, and it's toned down, but didn't have that lovely waxy, roasted potato flavor I've come to expect from SL. I'm actually glad it's different than SL in many ways, because facsimiles of tobaccos are just no fun at all. The Turkish tobacco in the mix really stands out, and in a great way.
I ended up having about four bowls at Tinder Box while hanging out, and it never got old. I'm glad I have a couple of tins on hand for when I need a milder Latakia mixture, but not lacking in flavor.
Sorry this wasn't a spunky play-by-play review, I have plenty on my mind and whatnot.
