Yesterday I got my first tattoo, a little tribute to my grandparents. A little later in life than most people get their first, but the artist and I agreed it's maybe better that way--a person makes better decisions about permanent things.

And now that the adrenaline buzz has worn off, I can absolutely see why people go back again and again for more. I'm already planning the design for the second. (I can also see why people are content with one or none, too.)

Any ink enthusiasts amongst the Brothers here? What have you got under your skin, and why?

Hey Doc.. Glad to hear your happy with your skin art.. I started back in the early 70's while in travel around the world in the Army. I found the best art that told a story of my life and my perspective of life. I regret not one piece of skin art. I had to keep low profile where I worked for 31.5 years for the Sheriff Dept in our County. So all of mine can and are covered by a t-shirt. Found a great artist near my home who re-did some of the older ones. She is a true artist. I shall show some via photo if I can get my wife to do some camera work.. Love em.. :)
Chuck..

P.S. the local artist added many new ones also I should add.. about 60 hours worth of ink she created from what I wanted done.
Found an old black n white taken a year before I retired at work.

That looks nice, VE! Is some of that blackletter in the typeface that looks the same right-side and upside-down?

My artist came recommended by name by everyone I asked in the area, so I came in with high confidence and was not disappointed. No pics yet, since (as you know) it's not too photogenic healing up and covered in Aquafor.

My first couple are definitely planned to be in the "covered by a t-shirt" zone. Mostly out of respect for my parents... they can have some plausible deniability for a while. Taboos have diminshed a great deal for teachers, but below the elbow seems to be a big mental block for some HR departments.

Very observant of you Doc.. Yes.. If you save the picture and have the software to rotate it upside down you will see it clear.. Better than trying to stand on your head by the computer.

:lol!:

Low profile is not a bad idea either.. Keeps you from getting them sunburnt. I have been asked why did you put letters that read the same upside down as up ? No one will know.. I told em it was for the wife..

Now we in Business boys, Well done Doc and VE!

Speaking of ink, back in my audio production days I used to do a lot of Rockabilly festivals. Though not authentic to the period (in the mid-50's only servicemen and criminal types were into it as a rule), Brian Setzer & Co. introduced it via the Stray Cats in the early 80's, and it "stuck". The result a generation later? Rockabilly festivals attracted a crowd where someone without tats was the exception.

My favorite was a hot mid-twenties girl with a FULL body suit who wore a crop top and mini shorts to the shows, and a bikini around the hotel pool the rest of the time. Amazing. I asked her what the designs were, and she said 100% authentic Japanese traditional. Bamboo gardens, dragons, koi fish, and so forth. It was mega-bizarre (especially in 1995), but truly beautiful.

I have a leprechaun and shamrock on my arm.
When I was young, I had my lip (inside) tattoo with the words "Piss Off".
I was crude and eventually wore away. (needle done by hand, not by tat gun)

LL: Rockabilly huh?
I'm a huge fan of Rockabilly / Psychobilly.
Murray's, pegged levis, schott perfecto, and steel toe engineer boots.............. :D

Found a couple more shot of my ink Doc on the site where I got em from. Ravens Tatoos

I think that covers enough for now in a manner of saying.. Front of chest and left shoulder later..
Chuck..

My son was never into sports, so while all the other dads were watching their sons play football I was watching my son draw. Around my 40th birthday I took my favorite picture that he drew me and told him to come with me. He was only 14 when he drew this. I pulled into the tattoo shop and went inside, my son asked me what I was getting and I pulled out the picture he drew.
The tattoo artist talked with my son for a good hour before starting and allowed him to sit with him the whole time, letting him choose the exact colors he wanted.

So while most parents hung their kids artwork on the fridge, I hung mine on my arm.

I have 1 faded skull on my upper bicep.. A memory of a guy I will never be able to forget anyway..

My old lady started last year at 30 something... She now has three with her next one planned...lol

Stay pure and clean Falconer, I am really sorry I destroyed my body with ink................................................
NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH never!!!!

Hey if I was built like you Dutch, I'd probably get one or two. I mean who'd notice?

Valky, I'd be more concerned with the size of my testicles than the amount of ink on my body!!

At the moment I have none, but I've been considering getting a small one. Just what, I don't know yet.

However, I used to design tattoos for people when I was in high school. =)
