I hear ya Dover. I have become friends with the manager who comes over to the house even though she lives an hour away.


When I go into the shop, the service is great. They set stuff aside for me that they think I may like. I don't always buy an expensive pipe or a couple hundred dollars worth of cigars, but sometimes I do.

Last time I was in there, they had some Palio cutters that I've been wanting to try out. I was looking through the display when she says, "oh wait, I put away the nicest one that I thought you would want." Sure enough, I bought that cutter.

I don't expect them to jump up and down or have a theme song ready when I walk in, just to be treated like a customer.

Bad news is I am helping her get another job, and I do NOT get the same service from the other 2 employees (which is fine, I'm usually attended to by the manager or the owner).

Damned we derailed the hell out of this thread.


The two I order from the most is Smoking Pipes and P&C. I have had great experiences with Cup O Joes as well.

BTW, IMHO, Smoking Pipes has some of the best estate pipes as well. I've nabbed my first Jody Davis, Adam Davidson, Larry Roush from here.

Thank you BoBers, I took the plunge and can now add my name to the satisfied customer lists of both smokingpipes and pipesandcigars as internet sources. Service, product, and pleasant responsive help was a surprise and I will shop with them again.

Smoking Pipes has the best offline payment system. You submit an order and get an email. Then you mail the check. What I like about them is that they set aside (or pack) what you order when you order it and wait for the check.

The reason i quit buying from JR's is all I ever ended up with was store credit because by the time my check arrived, they were sold out of what I wanted. THus, I would settle for something else.

As much as I'd like to support my local B&M store, they just don't have a good selection of pipes at all, so I buy most all of my pipes from Iwan Ries in Chicago. I've been quite happy with their service and the shipping is prompt. I've also bought from 4noggins and El Fumador, both of which were also good experiences, but their respective selections can't match Iwan Ries.
