If the stinger does not unscrew or pull out, there are two other tricks to try. One is to place the steam in the freezer for 30 minutes or so. Remove and see if it unscrews or pulls out. Two, heat the stinger (gently) to see if the stinger has managed to get stuck by tars. If neither work, I would not push it. Most stingers are removable but time and tars can work against removal.
As to the name, I suspect that is a previous owner and not the pipe maker.
