He's reached that point before, Piet. It lasts until he realizes that every other job has someone up his ass and looking over his shoulder all of the time, instead of just part of it.

I'm currently training my replacement....
Its not going real well, nobody including myself realized all the stuff I do..

Going into tech, have several freelance jobs I'm working on already, considering taking a helpdesk job that's been unofficially semi offered, and working on a flight sim and possible a air combat sim game for Android..

LL it ain't the same anymore... CSA2010 had changed the whole ball game.. Plus all the extra ' security' (its not, its just more people going through your dirty shorts supposedly preventing bombs and more paper work to fill out, with more government fees everytime you turn around....a guy with a gun can still kill a whole lot of people at these supposed secure sites).. The whole industry is moving toward electronic logs without changing the age old seat of the pants/hurry up and wait bs... Its not fun any more..Its really miserable just to be honest.. Politicians have "protected us" to the point there's no real money in it... What's the point?

PB... the name's Robert... glad to meet you... properly!!! I'm another of the fellows who plans on being here until the North Pole and South Pole swap places!!! This is undoubtedly the greatest bunch of guys I've ever run into... on the internet... or, anywhere else!! And, when I found BoB, it was as comfortable to me as my favorite house shoes and a good tasting, good smelling pipe... kind of like finding a long, lost friend!! So, I sank my roots deep!!!

See you around the boards!!

Robert

Is the tank business part of the increased scrutiny? Also, I'd imagine there are small(er) outfits that will resist e-logs and so forth for as long as they can. I gotta think there will be enough of a backlash over CSA2010 that something like a subculture will form. Truckers are about as easy to herd as cats.

Flatbedding is pretty fun, too, if you've considered it. No waiting at either end, you make your own delivery appointments, you go to all sorts of interesting places (not just tank farms/warehouses/distro centers connected by Interstates), securement is a tricky-but-fun game all its own, and heavy haul outfits are always on the lookout for the sharpest drivers. Maybe a change is all you need, not a complete career swap.

Just thinkin' out loud, understand. Imagining you outside a truck is hard to do.

Their coming along with making the boxes mandatory..

CSA2010 really in an underhanded way makes it so.. The FMCSA/Transportation Dep has changed the way they evaluate Carriers and added in Driver Evaluation.. You have to many points, and they are handed out in a stupid way, you loose your CDL.. You get points your carrier gets points.. They get to many points they lose thier Authority...

Heres how its working so far:
We have a local driver that goes out to Berea Ky almost everyday in his 64 mph truck, coming back empty one day he got a 77 mph ticket..
He fought it, the judge tossed it out.. The Cop got the wrong guy but was never going to admit it.. Our driver brought the computer print out showing the govern, brought the Black Berry GPS tracking and the Sky Bits trailer tracking (they only show average speed over a 5/15 minute time frame).. After the Cop saw 'The Evidense' he argued that our driver was rolling down a hill.. Woulda worked, Shoulda worked, Why didn't it work??? The Judge told the cop he drives that location to work, home to lunch, back to work, and finally home everyday and there wasn't a hill within 50 miles that would make a loaded truck run 77 much less an empty truck.. Case dismissed...
NOW HERES THE CSA2010 ********>>> It's still going against our local driver under the new system, they are counting Citations, NOT Convictions.. Our safety dept (I was in the room while some of it it went on) tried to get the Transportation Dept/DMV/DOT/FMCSA and everyone else connected to not count this against him.. NO DICE.

Its crazier than that though.. you can research how they assign the points, what points are generated for what activity.. The new medical rules.. and a host of other stuff by just googling CSA 2010.. but heres a few examples...

Unnecessary delay in HM transportation to destination: 1
Failing to use hazard warning flashers:1
Parking vehicle with explosives less than 5 feet from traveled highway:1
Operating HM vehicle through prohibited area:1
Unauthorized passenger on board CMV:1
Log violation (general/form and manner):2
Operating a CMV without a CDL:3
No pre-trip inspection:4
Inoperative turn signal:6
Inoperative tail lamp:6
Inoperative head lamps:6
Inadequate brake system:4
No or defective air reservoir drain valve:4
Failed to use caution for hazardous condition: 5
Reckless driving: 10
Following too close: 5
Driver uses or is in possession of drugs:10
Possession/use/under influence alcohol-4hrs prior to duty:5
Improper turns:5
Operating a CMV while ill/fatigued:10

You'll notice some ******* points values... a burned out head light gets you more points than no brakes???
Drug use gets more points than drunk driving??? Forgetting to sign your log is more serious than parking a load of explosives on the white line??? And the 'officers descetion' ********.. Being to ill to drive is worse than drunk driving? worse than no taillights? An improper turn (whatever that is) is worse than taking a poisen gas through Holland Tunnel??? ****..
And the only way to get the points off isn't by beating the citation in court, its by appealing to the federal agency that lives/breathes/dies/ and just happens to be funded by this ****?

Applicable Violation is defined as any violation recorded in any level roadside inspection that matches the FMCSR and HMR cites listed for Unsafe Driving (Table 1 in Appendix A) and Controlled Substances and Alcohol (Table 2 in Appendix A) during the past 24 months. In cases of multiple counts of the same violation, the CSMS only uses each violation cite once per inspection.

So one brake out of adjustment by 1/16 an inch is as serious as 10 brakes out of adjustment by 2 inches????

Yeah, that looks nuts. If that is the final version and not just the proposed one, I can guarantee that in a year driver pay will skyrocket. People willing to deal with that level of BS will be few and far between, never mind can actually do it.

Is there anything about this country that didn't used to be better?

I'd pay money to listen to your help desk calls PB... You're going to have to refrain from calling the users crackerheads.

I call people crackerheads in the pulpit, what makes a helpdesk so special....

PB, I used to push one of those big ******* coast to coast... dry box for a while... a garbage truck for a while... then, back to dry box. I've run my share of the east coast... and, then some!!!

I checked out what you were saying and the link that you provided. All I can say is that it's a crock of $hit!!! I've no doubt in my mind that it won't be long and there won't be any truck drivers left! A good portion of them will be eliminated with this stupid crap! And, the drivers who remain will simply get tired of putting up with such $hit and quit!!! It's quite enough to put up with dispatchers, shippers, and receivers that believe you have a Saturn V rocket attached to your ass and can run 6,000 miles a week... legal! And, now this????

If I were still driving, I'd be hunting me something better to do too!! Once I found it, I'd tell them to cram their trucks, trailers, logs, QUALCOMMs, regulations, and Saturn V rockets straight up their tight little *****!!!!!!!

This crap holds the driver responsible for things that the company should be held accountable for. That AIN'T RIGHT!!! But, it really doesn't surprise me. America's society is of a mentality that the ones who are actually at fault should never be held responsible... it's someone else's fault... blame him... penalize him... not me!

And, I'd say their priorities were a might f***ed up. But, it is painfully evident to me that they have NO priorities... except the financial ruination of professional truck drivers!!! It's a shame... a f***ed up, $hitty shame!!!

Sorry for the rant! But, most truck drivers are good, hard working men and women! And, the last thing they need is to have to bend over and get dry corn-holed more than they have been getting for the past few years!!!!!!

Hey PB, I think you got some competition here in the area of "tell us what you really think"!

so glad to see beebiz put his politeness aside for a moment. (thank god he's with us and not against us!)

My brothers, it is true that I believe that there is a serious lacking in the areas of genuine, heartfelt love, genuine politeness, and genuine, expecting nothing in return generosity in this world... especially in America! But, it is equally true that there is an overabundance of self entitlement, me-ism/I-ism, lack of responsibility for ones actions, and "you'll do as we the minority say or else" attitude that exists as well!! And, I... for one... have had my craw full of it!!

I am always proud and willing to stand, hold hands, and sing "Kumbaya" (meaning "Come By My God") with any deserving group of people... such as my brothers here! But, the inner lining of my stomach is so raw from trying to digest the attitude and direction that America has taken that I am literally about ready to puke up my sox!!

It's almost enough to make me go streaking across the country with "Give me Constitutional freedom where the MAJORITY RULES" painted across my chest; and "or, KISS MY ASS" painted across my butt!!"

Wake up America!!!! Let us return to the ways and intentions of our Founding Fathers... a country where a man can choose to live as he pleases... as long as he is putting no one else in harm's way... a country where you and I can decide what is good or bad for us... not where such decisions are made by a bureaucracy that is crazy with greed and a fear of the minority... a country where a man who is down on his luck can grab himself by his own bootstraps and pull himself up... not where that man is taxed completely out of his boots and paid to stay down despite his ability to get back up... a country where there is a difference between right and wrong... and the gray area between them is not as broad as the night's sky... a country where our government is in fact, "of the people, by the people, for the people"... and not a dictatorship that is drunk with greed and power... and, a country where the majority rules... not where the majority bends, bows and kowtows to every whim of the minority for fear of hurting someone's feelings or leaving someone out!!!!!!!

Quite simply put... let us once again become AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now... I sincerely hope that I have not been too vague in expressing my feelings!! I do actually feel a bit better!!!!!! ;) ;)
