A good cigar is like a good woman. Some you like, some you don't and some grow on a guy. If you like the look and the aroma, the right cigar will find you and then you too will appreciate the experience. A cigar like a pipe is a manly smoke. The right cigar will make you feel just great!
I have a great affinity for all females, regardless of size, colour or creed, women fascinate me, guess that explains why cigars are such a mystery to me then. ;)

Ah, like most strong flavors a taste is developed over time. Originally, I hated the leftover leather taste I had in my mouth the next day...now, I enjoy it...it reminds me of the good time I had and I really enjoy the flavor as well...until the coffee washes it away.

I find cigars to be, overall (generalization here, folks) more one-dimensional than most pipe tobaks. Each stick kinda has it's own profile, like each pipe blend does. What it's made of and it's shape help dictate the final flavor you experience...even within the same blend, cigar size varies the experience.

I smoked cigars occasionally and was gifted a 100 stick humidor before I took pipes up in earnest. While I smoke more pipes, on the average, I still sneak stogies in on a fairly regular basis. Though, much more so in the warmer months....the straw hat syndrome :p

And, of course, I'm speaking of quality cigars....

So then, we really are talking a difference equal to say 'Blue Mountain' to a Drugstore blend coffee, interesting, very interesting.

Hey Kirk - follow Marty's (LIPIPE) advice. That man knows his stuff, and knows it well!
This is not something I will ever venture into Rob, in a major way is it out of my league chap, I am just curious about the fascination behind it all, I find it very interesting as my experience of cigars has been, well, let's just say 'not good', to be fair though I have mostly chugged on the cheap 'drugstore' brands, I would sooner smoke a bale of straw in truth, they were horrid dry tasteless crap!

Kirk: You can get a good cigar for $2.50. You need to purchase seconds by the bundle. I like Famous 5000 Nicaraguan Maduros from Famous Cigars on line. I also just received a great bundle cigar from Cigars International. If you purchase a bundle, the per cigar price drops significantly. Seconds are just great for an everyday inexpensive smoke. It's possible your taste buds just are not up to a cigar yet. With more pipe experience you'll get the hang of it if you want to. If you prefer the pipe only, by all means just stick with what you like. I just happen to like both.

A 'very' different story here in the UK chap, our TAXMAN has a VERY DEEP pocket, even importing from USA he gets his happy dance revved up, but thanks for the sentiment. :)

Sorry bud. You lose. I guess life's better in the good ol' USA man.

Sun grown Ligero leaf lover...... indicates that one pipe smoker knows his way to cigars on the top shelf. Don't look now but there is another cigar man in this pipe community. Since Bobo smokes pipes and cigars I'll bet my BIC he sports a great stache and beard.
