Looking for good movies

Aaron and I have been on a movie kick lately and were wondering if y'all had any good recommendations.. We like just about anything, so long as it has some depth to it. Thanks a million.

Well the term "good movies" is subjective, I'll list a few of my favorites, who knows maybe you'll like them as well.

I am a western fan but do like others that aren't really coming to mind this time of morning.

I will second Midnight's suggestion of "Open Range". It has to be one of the best newer made westerns if not one of the best of all times. I don't know how that didn't make it to the big screen.

Next and all time favorite is "The Outlaw Josey Wales". Greatest movie Clint Eastwood ever made.

2nd favorite is "The Missing" with Kate Blanchett and Tommy Lee Jones.

"Elizabeth II The Golden Age"

"Incident at Oglala", Documentary about the murder of two FBI agents at the Pine Ridge Oglala Sioux Native American Reservation and the subsquent framing of Leonard Peltier.

"Thunderheart", losely based movie version of the above. Still a good movie.

 

[Puff Daddy]

The Dark Knight just came out on DVD I rarely go to the movies and am not really into action films but I gotta tell you, I loved this movie. My wife talked me into going when it came to the theaters and I'm really glad I saw it.

My preference is for comedies. Some of my all time favorites:

Grumpy old men (1 and 2)

A Christmas story

Blazing Saddles

History of the world part 1

I always recommend Beautiful Girls to people because it seems no one has ever seen it and it's one of our favorites. It has such a great cast - Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, Michael Rappaport, Uma Thurman, Mira Sorvino, Lauren Holly, Rosie O'Donnell, David Arquette, and Natalie Portman.

It kinda centers around Timothy Hutton who went off to NY to be a musician and his coming home for the holidays to his small hometown. We never get tired of watching it.

My personal all-time favorite though is Cool Hand Luke. Just can't beat it. No one can eat fifty eggs.

Wow, so many good ones listed so far.

I like Bogart movies: Casablaca would be #1, then in no particular order; Key Largo, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, African Queen, The Caine Mutiny.

Then there's John Wayne, especially those directed by John Ford.

Also, by Alfred Hitchcock; Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds...etc...

Just thought of another, it's called 'The Lives of Others.' It's a German film, in German, but of course that's why they added subtitles. It's about secret monitoring of "suspicious" citizens of East Berlin by the Stasi. It's a really great movie and after a while you don't even notice this subtitles.

And 'The Butterfly Effect', one of the most underrated,defies classification movies ever. It came out a year or two ago starring Ashton Kirchner and a hot blonde chick I can't remember the name of.
This movie left my head spinning... Plum freaky... Can't reccomend it enough.

Sunday night I watched "In the Bedroom" until 2:30 am. I like Tom Wilkinson's acting... It presents a senario of a person who acts on his feelings... I found it quite disturbing/haunting as I'm not sure I would do anything differently.
