This not the first of these I have made, but I like to make each a little different. Sits like a champ, and will smoke great too. Enjoy the pic! Gonzo

Interesting. I like it.

What is the green shank treatment?

Cheers,

RR

It is an acrylic stem, made with 2 different colors of the same material. Thank you

The next logical step, is to ask Gonzo to make the next BoB 2015 Pipe of the Year!

Very cool. And I like Dutch's idea. A POY cob would be sweet.

Nice work, Gonzo.

I love your enthusiasm for this work Dutch and thank you! Thanks to everyone for the supportive comments on this. I have several more of these type of pokers in the works, would be glad to make some available on BoB. This is a pic of one I made for myself, the prototype of this design if you will.

Gonzo, I'm curious. Are you burning the nomenclature into the stem?

I like the lettering style as well!

Yes sir! Drawn on the side with something similar to a soldering iron. I thought about stamping it for a super crisp look, but this has a better fit to a cob for me.

Just for fun, how many pipes do you think would be needed to accommodate such an idea :?:

Gonzo, you could do a search on previous POY threads here on the forums and get an idea of how many pipes were sold. Of course those were briars, not cobs, so it might be a possibility that more folks would be interested based on less out of pocket expense.

Can't say I have ever seen a cob POY on any online forums, but modified cobs have gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It used to be that most smokers viewed cobs as cheap disposable pipes, but in reality, if built with quality materials and cared for properly, they can stay in service for decades.

That's pretty cool man. I like how it's kind of a country meets city sort of style. A lot of custom cobs I see are a bit off, or way too ornate. If you do decide to start putting some up, I'd like to have one

Sounds good! Thank you for your interest. I am working on a briar pipe that I should have done by the end of the day, will get some pics up later.

Dutch as always I appreciate the input and will look at some old posts for poy.

eklektos44, You hit on what I am talking about. I like the idea, but don't want to commit to a project so big people are waiting forever if there is too many to get done in a reasonable amount of time. I am doing a lot of stuff by hand right now.
