I probably should go check my mailbox.  It's been...a while.   Fortunately the heat hasn't come back with a vengeance quite yet.

this stuff smells great, looks like a constipated cat turd, arrived soaking wet, and after a bunch of preparation and drying, smoked great. i like it! i bet this stuff would be just amazing with a few years under it's belt.

What was your prep method Jeb?

Cheers,

Exacto knife into coins. Initially cut the too thick. Figured it out after a while, still smoked the thick ones. Rubbed em out and dried them trying again after dinner. Will report back

Hey, good news:  got my stuff.   Mike's an awesome guy--I'll just say that.  Order through him often, all of you.

The pigtail was shipped to me in this monkey-fist knot, nicely wrapped, but dense as all hell.   I've only gotten a few coils at a time before this, but it's impressive and carefully-wound in its natural state.

Yeah, to anyone curious, here's my method with the Pigtail:

Get a really sharp knife (or good scissors, it's easier) and cut dime-thickness coins.  Cut those in half.  Rub them out fully.  Let dry a bit, to the point where when you bunch them together or make a "tobacco-ball," they spring back out a bit.   Fill pipe cautiously, use a small bowl.   Pack fairly tight, with a bit of resistance on the draw.  Do NOT smoke fast or furious.   Go about ten minutes smoking slowly, then take a ten minute break--unless you're used to high-octane tobacco (trust me on this).  Plus, the ten minute breaks give wonderful "DGT"  (go look up the acronym in the guide).

Alternate method:

...prepare as above, but once the coins are cut in half, dry for a little while, and stuff those slightly "football-shaped" pieces in the pipe until desired draw is reached.  Begin  smoking as stated above.  The flavor will totally change from the first method--it gets dynamic and quite intense.

Enjoy.

Interesting method. I am going to experiment with shredding it in the likeness of Dark Birdseye, which is also one that needs to be handled with kid's gloves. The diameter of the pigtail reminds me of Peter Heinrich's Curly which performs really well dried out a bit. Coins off the piggy seem a bit more moist that Curly though. This stuff smells incredible. Reminds me of Viking Dark snuff.

DGT eh? I thought it wouldn't be so great due to the fact that dark flake and bracken flake taste like cigar and farts when you dgt them, but this rope is some different beast for sure. It's so sweet and creamy... I'll try that this week! The smoke in the cob was sublime until the shank committed seppuku on me. I'm going to try it in my barling pot tomorrow. I like this stuff!

"What?  No fold 'n' stuff?"    :lol!:

(...takes two weeks to light...)

Of course it's the same stuff!   I'm not sure if GH&Co wraps it up as it came, or if Mike does that at mars just to fit it in the bag, but it was a beautiful square-ish wound fist of lovely Pigtail.   The stuff you've given me was in nice, perfect coils.   <img class="emojione" alt="?" title="" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/1f937.png?v=2.2.7"/>

I'd take pictures of it, but I had a hell of a time getting it in the jar (intact) for safekeeping, and there it shall stay.

I need pics, or else I can't even
begin to comprehend what you lunatics
have been going on about!

Thanks for the prep advice Kyle.

And knowing all too well how HO heavy hitters like this are likely to be for me, I'll make sure to choose a small bowl and smoke it slowly with a break.

I've come to learn when the effects of high-nic start to come on, and it's not a pleasant thing to let it go beyond the warning signs.

And I plan to smoke it after a full meal too.

Cheers,

RR

You know, I didn't find it that strong. It's got a kick for sure but wasn't as strong as dark flake for me. Ymmv blah blah blah
