When BoB was first started it was a band of refuges from a crumbling into oblivion Knox Cigar Forum. We didn't all like each other but we clung together by the common bond of being Knoxers. We grown. We've seen waves of guys come and waves of guys go. There's very few 'Knoxers' left.
It really hit me The other day when one of you guys wanted to lay the handle of Cappo on another member. I literally spoke our loud at the monitor. "No!".
It got me dwelling. Tj's gone. Kens gone. Jp's Mia along with Chuck and a handful of others. Slow puffs has quit posting..Carlos seldom does. DPG quit, LL too. Everytime PuffDaddy posts someone quits. Lol. Ole dawgs on alot bur he doesn't post all that often. Haven't seen MileM in forever. Hell even j is gone mora than he's here. Pirate, Egg, and Showme make annual appearance.
These are the guys that taught me to pipe. We've listened to each others kids grow up. We've bombed, secret santad, and boxpassed. Comforted each others sorrow, shared each others joys.
Laugh at what I'm saying if ya want. If its 'just a pipe forum' to you I can't fix that, but to the rest of you. Grow those bonds, carry the torch. Love each other. Be brothers in more than just name. The old guard appears very much to be passing the torch. Pick it up and run with it.

I wasn't part of the Knox thing.
BoB was the first pipe forum I joined after
becoming a pipe smoker. I participate in
several forums, but this is always the first one
I check and I've always felt most at home here.

Hermit & I joined around the same time. Good people have gone, sadly. Others, with lots of enthusiasm, have come. BoB continues. I check in every day - it's pretty much part of my routine. As you say PB, we sure have seen a whole lot of life lived over the past few years.

I havent been her that long. But like hermit I too checked out a few pipe forums but here is where Ive stayed, and here is where I will be.

Being a new pipe smoker, I can't tell you how much I have learned from this forum in a very short amount of time. I have scanned other forums, but this is the only one that I particpate and check everyday (several times a day). I understand what PB is talking about, because I have experienced the same falling off of members in some watch forums. I for one intend on participating in this forum as much as I can. I hope to add quality to this forum as I learn more and more about our chosen hobby.

In any case, I truly enjoy this forum - so thank you to the founders, mods and "knoxers" who made it all happen!

... shouldn't that be BoB and I? :p

I've only been around a few weeks, and it already feels like home.

PB, ya can't go home again. Wish it weren't true. Knox was an anomoly, it was special and it died with most of the people there still loving it. That's usually how it happens, with people and places. But, to just walk away and let the spirit of it die is to disrespect the memory of TJ (the only Capo there will ever be), Ken, and all the other brothers who led the way and set the bar.

BoB was a Knox refugee camp that grew. So, let it grow, and keep the spirit of the Knox Yodas alive within BoB. You can't forcefeed it or dictate it's collective direction, but you can try to set a standard and hope that it's recognized for what it is, and educate people on where it came from and why.

And for the record, I believe you and I have about the same number of chalk marks up on that scorecard

I miss hearing from One-Eyed-Jack. Too bad he didn't make the move.

Thank you PB. That put it into perspective. :)

To some of us, BoB is our Knox, and this is only known to me because of the posts from when BoB first started sometime in 2007, with the guys tryin' to get a head count over here and make sure everyone knew where and what BoB was. There was a real camaraderie, and even saying that much doesn't seem to denote what kind of connection these guys had.

It's been a little over six months for me here, and I've received (sometimes quite randomly) countless baggies of tobacco, pipes, and Carlos himself destroyed me in Secret Santa 2011. I have done my best to return the "bomb" favor, even picking up pipes and smoking curiosities I know someone might like. I give pipes and tobacco to neighbors, friends and the newly-met (that are worthy) and almost embarrass them with surprise of the nice gifts. I have had extensive phone conversations with people I have never met which I now consider friends. I probably talk as much with pipesters over email as much as I do here. I have learned, in a short time, more than I would have any place else, and from people who know and trust--period. I hear tales of Brothers meeting up with each other at pipe gatherings and shows to hang out. In fact, just today, there's a Brother coming up from Vegas on business, but taking an afternoon to meet up with me at my local Tinder Box.

What other forum has or does this? None that I've been a part of, spare the bluetongueskinks.net site I was a moderator for, but it wasn't as close, and the good times were short-lived and the old guard also moved on. It's kind of a thing, it seems. I miss some of those people a lot, but still talk to a handful.

The spirit of Knox'ers will change a little, as it suits BoB and the "new torch bearers," but it will not die. I wouldn't have wasted my time with 3500 ******* posts if I thought this place wasn't a good one. I didn't know Knox, but from what I can tell, we're well on our way to learn from our progenitors and hopefully make it even better.

I hope we spread these ideals and ways like a Brotherly virus.

I like this place, the spirit, the lineage and the history. Don't lose touch with your friends here, please. Don't treat this place casually. May we all laugh, cry, listen, tell, bomb, be bombed, smoke, and enjoy fully what a short life it really is with one another.

J never made it to Yoda on Knox. Nanner Nanner boohoo. LOL!!!

Reading through old post make me chuckle and remember guys I'd forgot.
I think I started sounding smarter around post 2000 at Knox and dumber arOund post 2000 here.

P.B & Kyle are right on. I just started smoking pipes again about 8 months ago after a 30 year hiatus ( if it is not spelled correctly I am sure Kyle will let me know) , and this is the only forum I belong to. P.B. You cannot go back, only forward. Personally I only know this forum but I am sure the Knox group were a great bunch as we can see what was set up with the BOB. I dont post much only when I might have something to say, but I read most every post and am online 3-4 times a day. I guess if I was as insightfull as PB or could write as elequente ( wish there was a spell check) as KYLE I would post more. In closing let me say I enjoy the Brotherhood and all the brothers and if it was not for KNOX There would be no BOB. MIKE

Damn, SPUD you're making this educational dropout's pride a little better. ("hiatus" was correct!)

Speaking of SPUD, that guy, right there, sent me my favorite tamper: a perfectly weighted, joined and polished set of brass munitions shells--just because. 8) Thanks again, Brother!

PB, are you just waxing nostalgic, or is there anger underneath your OP? Unfortunately, friends weave in and out of our lives in many ways, but sometimes it is just as good to let them go and remember the good times. My wife's mild facebook obsession has gotten her back in touch with some friends from college and high school, but we are at very different points in our lives now. Some of these old friends haven't changed much in the last fifteen years, and that is not a positive thing. I don't think my liver could stand up to my drinking habits (style, content, and method of use) of my college days, and I don't hang out with those guys anymore because they are still trying to keep it up like they are still teenagers.

Things happen for a reason, and nothing stays the same. I don't want to take away if you are just rehashing good memories, but if you want a little unsolicited advice (BOB's greatest export!!) let it be with the good memories; don't try to bring it back -- the result is normally a perverted, ill-fitting replica; and enjoy what we have now for what it is, rather than what isn't.

I'm missing my missing friends an procede to tell the new guys to stick together, brother up, become tomorrows Ol Guard and you somehow sense anger? Lol

Proof that I don't get you guys.

Yeah but it was mostly me screwing with people an them taking it to heart. .. The ones I've actually put forth effort to runoff still wont leave You on the other hand just make people want to jump off of bridges. Lol three people done 'rage quit' from the initial reply and another just left because I quoted you. Lol

My mistake, that's why I asked. I appreciate your ability to "tell it like it is" in most of your posts, but reading into the tone of the op was lost on me. I am happy to be a part of this community and respect the prolific members for the time and effort they put into BOB, and the useful information that is freely exchanged here.

For what it's worth from one on the new guys, the old guard did something right. This is an excellent forum, and I sense a sort of cultural momentum that carries on regardless of the presence of its founders.
And PB, we new guys always just assume you're ready to start shootin'.
