Boswells Countryside is a good light lat.

I'll 2nd Chelsea Morning. Honestly, if you can't find a GL Pease latakia blend you like then you simply might not like latakia.

G.L.Pease Ashbury. Probably his BEST light Latakia blend that is absolutely biteless and is a true Balkan type. Not very well known here but truly one of the "classic" traditional English/Balkan blends made today :p

I have no doubt...with the exception of Frog, any Lat. blends I've had that I've enjoyed have been GLP blends - having now had several bowls of Blackpoint that I've let dry, I really, really like it. A lot. Sometimes the perique is a bit strong, but other than that good (which is odd for me to say, since I'm a pretty big perique fan in general).

I regret that I let one blend I didn't like - years ago - turn me off of a whole genre which I now find incredible. Oh well...spilled milk, and all that.

Sounds like you're looking for

...CHELSEA MORNING!

It's not heavy on the lat, has some perique and is a wonderful smoke. Medium-strong and very scrumptious. It's going to be extra delicious after Chelsea wins the Champions league on Saturday!!! :lol!:
Not superstitious, are we?!

Chelsea...ugh.

I'm sure its a fine blend, but the name sounds a bit rancid.
Sounds like a CHAMPION'S blend to me!  haha

I know you'll at least enjoy CM, Ian. Our tastes are similar, as you pointed out in another thread. I'd send you some but I'm currently out :( I need to fix that problem...

Ashbury does sound really good as well from monbla's review. There's just so many GLP blends! I recently tried a bowl of Bohemian Scandal... OMG! Such a balanced Latakia blend! Too bad it's now defunct

I forgot to mention SG's Skiff mixture! Also a very nice lighter English. I have plenty if you'd like to try... Maybe by then I'll have some more Chelsea Morning in stock as well :)

Pease does such a good job working with the sour and almost astringent nature of Cyprian Latakia, it's hard for me to find balance in other blender's mixtures.

When I want Latakia flavor without the Latakia intrusion, I reach for EMP.

This comes from my contrary-to-theme bliss from some Billy Budd right now...which really mans-up one's tongue. 8)

See, and this was that one blend that turned me away from lat for so long. Dunno if my tastes were still so aro-inclined at that point or what, but EMP is the one blend that I'm still gun shy about getting into.

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that my next tobacco order has to include a tin of CM...hopefully it's nothing like the football club which shares a namesake, being overrated and misguidedly fawned over by some Americans, even though they are clearly pretenders to the throne every bit as tasty as everyone says! 8)

Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to buying some...I'm pretty eager to give it a try. I was in a B&M not too long ago with the intention of picking some up, but they didn't have any in which is how I ended up with Blackpoint.

I think I recall you mentioning that. Interesting. I find the stuff so subtle but so balanced in its use of Lat that I can reach for it on a day when I can't decide if I want something mellow or something smoky. *shrug* I still have yet to dive into "Skiff" by Sammy G, but I'd love to find some other mixtures that do the same but perhaps have a slightly different tune to march to.

Still being new to pipes and lat blends (which I like). What seems like a mild lat blend to me is G.L. Pease's Meridian. I prefer Charing Cross at night, but Meridian works for a good day time smoke for me.
