I am I big fan of miltary rifles and hand guns. I prefer the odd and off beat weapons though, like the 7.62x38 Nagat revolver, and the Enfield 303.

For years I had an old 6.5 X55 Swedish mauser. It was big, long, heavy, flip up iron sights, but it was really cool.

This summer I picked up an Egyptian Hakim, in 8mm mauser.

ll got to show some pictures. We like pictures. Heres some of my old military rifles.

sure is. A svt 40 all matching numbers great bore too. Shoots like a dream. Shoots the same thing as the mosin in the picture. I hate to say it but I sold it back around last Christmas. Some one offered me a real nice price for it and I needed money so she went to a new owner. By the way Fatman, how you liken alaska. I have always wanted to get up there one day. Maybe get away. I always loved the moutains of NC where my folks are from. Back when I was younger and living there Id head out in the mountains and disapear for awhile.

Ah yea, very nice. I love that collection.
I cant seem to get my pics to post. Says wrong type of file but I dont knw how to fix that yet.
My collection is more a 303, an FAL, the Nagat revolver, and dreams of sweet rifles like those you posted.
Still cant think of a more elegant rifle than the Enfield 303. I have the MK2 and I love to shot that rifle. I take it any time I go shooting. I use to sight in other peoples rifles for them and I would always take that 303. Everyone was amazed at how accurate it is at 150 yards. It only has the original equipment peep sight so its too hard to see a bulls eye any farther than that.

I have only held one of those at a gun show, and it was pretty pricey! Pretty neat rifle though.I like it up here fair enough. Winters are a tad bit long. The economy never took a huge hit and housing did not drop when things went to hell in the lower 48. If you ever make a trip up here, shout out so we can meet! Also on a side not, I will post a pic of my 2 military rifles tomorrow, the Hakim, and a Garand.

Thats what Im wanting now is a Garand. Ive messed around till they are getting expensive now.

Back in the mid 1960's, had a friend who was the son of a gunsmith. He had what seemed to be several hundred old military rifles mounted on the walls! It was an awe inspiring sight for this young feller!

The CMP, which I believe has their only store is located in Alabama, has decent prices. I actually picked one up at a gun show last year for only 500 bucks! I was pretty jazzed.

I inherited an Enfield .303 jungle carbine and handed it to my son. It's supposed to be collectible but I never checked.

He's taken a number of deer with it but he won't take it up in the mountains,,,,,complains about the 49 pounds it weighs.:lol!:

Some nice military stuff there Plumber. The only military rifle that I still own is an antique Winchester Model 1885 Winder Musket in 22 short cal. It was just a training rifle in the early days, accurate as hell, inexpensive and fun to shoot. More of a collectors item and not really a battle weapon for sure. As far as Garand's are concerned, you are right on when you say the prices have gone up up up. I can't believe what they are selling for today.

I can sympathize. I got my mauser when I was in my twenties and for a decade it was the only rifle I owned, so I had no choice. I took a couple of nice deer with it, but it was not the most portable gun to climb around the Sierras with. I finally sold it when ammo for it got ridiculous. For years I could buy surplus ammo for it, 50 rounds in a plain brown cardboard box for $6 or $7. Then that stuff dried up and suddenly all that was available were specialty loads that cost more than a dollar every time you pulled the trigger. Bye bye mauser! By then I'd bought my Browning A Bolt .270 anyhow, and that was my baby for the next 15 years.

I know what you mean puff daddy. I have a 45-70 thats $2.00 a pop every time I pull the trigger. Getting stuff together to roll my own for that baby.

I've got a Nagant Revolver and a Mosin Nagant M38 from the same year and same factory. I want a SVT, and a SKS real bad, but can't find either for a price that won't empty my pocket.

You should be able to pick up an sks rather cheaply.
If ya want a 7.62 x 39, why not the much more user friendly AK47. It has a clip in type of magazine that allows quick change . The AK is easy maintain and clean. I can break mine down, clean it, and put it back together in about 3 minutes.

User friendly is relative. I personally prefer the feel of an SKS over a AK47 (have held and shot both). I don't like the feel of the stamped metal parts on the AK. There are different types of magazine wells that you can put in an SKS making quick change no problem.
"Cheaply" is also relative.
There's nothing wrong with AK47's, They are phenomenal, reliable guns. I just prefer the SKS.
