I have only held one of those at a gun show, and it was pretty pricey! Pretty neat rifle though.I like it up here fair enough. Winters are a tad bit long. The economy never took a huge hit and housing did not drop when things went to hell in the lower 48. If you ever make a trip up here, shout out so we can meet! Also on a side not, I will post a pic of my 2 military rifles tomorrow, the Hakim, and a Garand.plumbernater":sx692zaq said:sure is. A svt 40 all matching numbers great bore too. Shoots like a dream. Shoots the same thing as the mosin in the picture. I hate to say it but I sold it back around last Christmas. Some one offered me a real nice price for it and I needed money so she went to a new owner. By the way Fatman, how you liken alaska. I have always wanted to get up there one day. Maybe get away. I always loved the moutains of NC where my folks are from. Back when I was younger and living there Id head out in the mountains and disapear for awhile.
The CMP, which I believe has their only store is located in Alabama, has decent prices. I actually picked one up at a gun show last year for only 500 bucks! I was pretty jazzed.plumbernater":4flkd3sx said:Thats what Im wanting now is a Garand. Ive messed around till they are getting expensive now.
I can sympathize. I got my mauser when I was in my twenties and for a decade it was the only rifle I owned, so I had no choice. I took a couple of nice deer with it, but it was not the most portable gun to climb around the Sierras with. I finally sold it when ammo for it got ridiculous. For years I could buy surplus ammo for it, 50 rounds in a plain brown cardboard box for $6 or $7. Then that stuff dried up and suddenly all that was available were specialty loads that cost more than a dollar every time you pulled the trigger. Bye bye mauser! By then I'd bought my Browning A Bolt .270 anyhow, and that was my baby for the next 15 years.mark":6vs6ihlh said:He's taken a number of deer with it but he won't take it up in the mountains,,,,,complains about the 49 pounds it weighs.:lol!:
