Received a notice from customs today that they want prove of payment before they release my pipe.  So I directed them to eBay!  Hopefully I will have the pipe by end of this week, almost a month after I bought it.

Living in Bananaland is no joke!
Bananaland , I like that.
Be careful when you bend over.

Our soccer team is called Bafana Bafana from the country Banana Banana....says it all, not so? Btw, our Bafana Bafana has perfected their goal to avoid scoring. They do it in every game they play.

I received the pipe today, not what I expected.

I can only hope it smokes better than it looks.

My first and last Moretti

The pics make it look like a pretty decent pipe; may I ask what you don't like about it?

The bowl (tobacco chamber) was drilled off centre, sits more to the left.  Also, the bowl sits scew, not in line with the shank, sits at an angle to the right. The rear corners of the bowl is out of true as well.  It really looks like something made by an amateur.  Hand made? YES!! Obviously

On the other hand, the grain is really beautiful, almost 360° straight grain. The stem is OK, nothing to sing halleluja about but ya, it's OK.

If I saw this pipe at our B&M I would not have bought it.

Ah right, maybe this pipe was made for a righthanded guy like me, that's why the bowl was angled to the right. Does fit comfortably in my hand!!!

Well, I don't think freehands are known for their symmetry. I have exactly one, and it's an awkward top-heavy club. Smokes nice, though. Good luck with this one. You may come to like it.

Thank you, sir!  I have a feeling that this pipe will become a favourite despite it's "faults"  :D

When I compare the Moretti with my Goussard, which is also a freehand, the difference is so obvious that I can't be anything else but disappointed.

Charl's pipe is perfectly made and something to brag with. The Moretti is a "leave at home" pipe.

Don't SMOKE IT, SEND it back ASAP! You'll not be happy with it and it's too much to pay for something you don't really like.
In my opinion most of the new Moretti's are pretty sad looking, sloppy work and
just clunky looking and certainly are not worth the money there going for.
Send it back and purchase something of higher quality and you'll surely be happier.

I'm still brooding on what to do about this pipe. I bought it as a gift to myself for my 70th birthday which comes up towards the end of this month

But I don't want it as a gift to myself anymore

So, I've asked Charl Goussard to make me a bulldog instead and he's working on it already. I will post pictures when I have it. I already have one Goussard pipe which the good man has gifted me and I've seen numerous of the jewels he's made. I know I'm getting a perfect pipe this time round  :D

I've made up my mind about this pipe....I'm going to keep it

First of all, I've checked out a lot of freehand pipes and most of them are not 100% symmetrical which actually shows that it was handmade indeed.

Then, the grain on the pipe is so beautiful, the more I looked at it, the more I loved it.

The draw was a bit restricted (unusal for an Italian pipe) but that was easy to rectify and its smooooooth now.

So, I've loaded it with ESCUDO and fired up. A bit of raw briar taste was there, as I expected. But now, after I've gone through 5 bowls of tobacco, I know this is going to be one fine pipe.

As long as YOUR happy with it, that's all that matters sir. I hope it will continue to please you. ;)

I'm ever so slowly falling in love with this animal  :D  It's gracing on a wee bit of OGS at present and both of us are loving it!

This pipe sings with ESCUDO and I will use it for that purpose only
