I don't know why I do this to myself. Perhaps I am a bit OCD, and I definitely have a thing against throwing tobacco away. But does anyone else here finish a tin or jar of tobacco despite not enjoying it all that much?

There are a few blends that I keep hoping to find some good in, and here I am almost 2 ounces gone and no dice. Am I dumb or just crazy?

Yep. Closet full of tobacco I wish I didn't have. Too lazy to sell or trade. Too much hassle. I'll smoke it eventually--it's not horrible. Come to think of it, I have a closet full of tobacco I haven't even tried yet.

Yuppers, been through that. Some choices were nightmares. Fortunately, like having to cook something you can't stand for the family, I tweak it a bit towards something I can get down. Same with the 'ugly blends'. Sometimes adding a bit of this or that can turn something gross into something quite palatable.

Of course, there are those nightmares that you can never shake..........................

They work great as animal wormer at that point..............

Do it quite often and if there's enough to jar I'll do that also and hope that age sweetens it on my return.
Even when smoking a bowl sometimes I'm done before the tobacco is and I USE to smoke it all just so as not to waste but, as of late and the amount of tobacco I have on hand I tend to dump it but, not without uttering a disgusting note.
Nothing to be ashamed of sir, it just shows that your not a wasteful sort and you try to abide by the golden rule "Waste not, Want not!" Keep on being frugal, it pays in the end. ;)

Happy to hear I am not the only one.

I had one of those moments today, mid-smoke, thinking "why the hell am I continuing smoking this tobacco? Is doesn't particularly taste very good, it never really has."

Yet there I was, one bowl from finishing the jar. Funny thing is, I probably will still finish the damn jar, even after venting this. :fpalm:

Usually I set it down for a few months until i forget about it (theory of obscurity) and then once I rediscover it I often enjoy it

Nope. I don't like it I don't smoke it. If a blend ain't working for me I dump the bowl right now. And then the rest of it gets gifted away or sold since there's bound to be someone who likes it.

Cheers,

RR

What's even worse is when I schlep my way through a blend I never enjoy only to go back and buy more a couple years down the road thinking something might be different :fpalm:

I do this too. I can often make something quite smokable out of a blend or two I don't really like straight.

Or I find someone to give it to.

Unfortunately, I have also revisited a blend I know I don't like, especially when a bunch of people convince me it's great, only to find that I still don't like it. Then I have to blend it or give it away again...

I hate throwing tobacco away.

If I really don't like it, it gets tossed. Too many good tobacco blends to waste time with lesser ones. I don't like waste either, but it you tried a jar or can of some food item and you didn't like it, would you really choke it down? ("Hmmm, I have heard of Vegemite...")

As for the cost, well, I think of it as tuition. I learn a lot.

Wise words Fazby.

At UK prices I can't afford to have too many stinkers. To alleviate this I try to do a fair bit of research on any new blends. After that I'll usually stick it out. Thankfully I've yet to find one that is a real lemon.

I used to be that way, even with aromatics, until I discovered how well aromatic tobacco works as an air freshener in my truck. Best of all, I can mix several aromatics together if needed, and refreshing my air freshener is as simple as rehydrating my smokeable tobaccos. I simply mist the inside of the Tupperware lid, and presto, new air freshener.

Once it's dried completely out though, it's best to add a little more aromatic tobacco. After the last bombing, according to my calculations, my truck should smell like fruitcake till 2021.

That doesn't address the last question.... :lol!:

After almost 50 years of smoking a pipe now, I've tried most of the blends/mixtures I want to and have settled on about 6 that I rotate btwn now. But when I was ping-ponging around blend/mixtures as many do here, if I tried a blend/mixture that did not "do it" for me,after 2/3 bols, I'd pass it on to another smoker friend and if that was not available I would toss the rest of the tin!! (keeping the empty tin of course  ) I never felt that I  HAD to consume it all if it did not bring any pleasure in smoking it! Those that were "alright" I'd finish the tin but probably not buy some more .  I feel this activity of ours is meant to bring pleasure , not be something we HAVE to do !!

I have subjected your statement to critical analysis and have reached the conclusion that your view is the correct one. Onward through the friggin' fog!!!

Life is to short to smoke tobacco that doesn't float your boat!

For me tobacco usually falls into 3 categories.

1. Yuck. Instant dislike. For these I'm lucky if I make it through the first bowl. They go into the trade/gift/pass on pile. Just because I find it awful doesn't mean someone else doesn't love the stuff. I'd say about 5% of blends I've tried fall here.

2. So-so. These are pleasurable to smoke but not earth moving either. I'll usually smoke through these but I'm probably not stocking up on them. About 80% of blends seem to be in this category for me.

3. Wow this is tasty. In fact it's so tasty I want to corner the market on it and cellar a 100lbs of it. I guess about 15% of what I've smoked falls into this zone.

Great analysis, swipple! I think most of us have similar tobacco trial breakdowns - the arguments start when you begin listing which baccy is in which group! :D  :fpalm:
