Hey guys!

As some of you may have noticed, I started a blog to catalogue the processes and thoughts that occur in relationship to making pipes. There's a link at the top of my signature and I'll post in this thread to let everyone know when a new article(?) is up...

Which is now! I just tossed up the first post about my second pipe so please check it out!

You can follow the blog, share it, comment on it, and subscribe to receive e-mail notifications when something new gets posted. Please do them all. ;)

-Dave

Edit: Oh yeah, here's another link: David Makes a Pipe

Hurry up will ya? I wanna see the birdseye! I love birdseye! :D

Did a major upgrade to my "shop" so I did a quick little blog post about it. Nothing actually major, but feel free to look if you like. :)

Trust, briar dust is being made! I'll let everyone know as I roll out a few more posts over the next few days concerning progress and a few bumps in the road... :p

If getting organized, putting up a shelf and getting excited about it is going to be the only post for the next two months, forgive me if I fall asleep. :lol!: :lol!: :lol!:

I wanna see a post EVERY DAY about a new pipe you've made! :p 8)

Shelving is good! Now you need to remove that bookcase and put in a big work table and benches for the lathe, sanders, band saw etc.!

man - you got a preety nice stock of material there :)
....
:)
keep the good work going..!

I'm working on it, I'm working on it! Sheesh! :p

How's about a story, hmm? Here's a post about the trials and tribulations of learning how to incorporate power tools into the fold... when you have extremely limited experience with them...

Blood, Sweat, and Stupid

Tales of blood are always a plus.

Because I have yet to approach a tobacco chamber on the briar chunk you gave me, I'm starting to think how I may go about this. Two reasons: One, I don't have a "vice." It's still the guitar case on a keyboard stand. Which means, even if I manage to hold on to a piece of briar and push it into a clamped, free-spinning bit (which I have now, courtesy Todd Harris...) I'm sure you can see the humor in the whole guitar case flying up and off the stand.

:lol!: All in due time, my friend. I need to figure out how to use this powered hand drill first. :p :study:

What an image! :lol!:

I picked up a versatile vice for pretty cheap at my local hardware store. I just looked online and guess what I found? A nice vice for about $50 less than I paid.

Here's the link! Table Vice

Table vice, table vice, ev'ry morning you greet me
Small and gray
Let us play
You look happy to meet me...

I need to sleep more. :drunken:

Oh, and the pipe in the picture should be done by the weekend if all goes well. I'll be blogging about it soon! The nice thing is, I've got topics piling up, so there's plenty of fodder for the next week or two of blog posts. :)

Good. I don't think a minute-by-minute of 85 hours of pipemaking would keep my short attention span for very long. :p

Once I have an actual workshop, I'll put together a corner for some tools. 8)

Table vice? Isn't that something you do with a broad, or whatever? I thought it was banned in some states. :)

So far so good, can't wait to see the finished product. I know the feeling of briar being ripped out of your hands, and it's not a good one.

Very well done blog my friend and nice work, that pipe looks awesome.
Thanks! And it's almost done too. I anticipate another 2 hours or less until I call it done. That'll put me at... drum roll please... 15 hours. Pretty good drop from the first pipe, huh? ;)

I'll be writing a post about the process today and then I'll do another once the pipe is done and ready for display. I'll post here when each of those posts are up. :D

Wow that ones a real beauty! I'm really excited to see how your work continues to progress, I have no doubt it will with the ye you have for shaping!

Is the pipe that cracked the one in the most recent pictures up there? That is one delicate shank!
