Intersting shape. It's mass needs a bit longer stem IMHO to balance the mass of the briar. Looking forward to what you do with it and how you finish it.

I think it will be okay after you bend it. Then again, I struggle with the proportions on every pipe I make....so I might not be the best help.

Thanks to you both.

There's still a lot to be done, so it's also entirely possible that I'm asking for thoughts too early.

I tossed up a better photo of the stem. Once I got home and had another look at the pipe, I realized that the bowl of the pipe was turned slightly towards the camera when I took the first pic. The picture that is now on the blog is a true profile shot.

Totally a better picture. I think the length is fine and will look great with just a little bitty bend.

I kind of jumped ahead and replied on the page, but just make sure you have a complimentary "S" shape to the shank, and that pipe will be great. 8)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I kept working at the stem and wound up going a direction that I didn't like, so it'll be a new stem anyway!

Still lots of material to take off, especially on the shank.

This one is waaaaaay asymmetrical and is looking kinda cool in person. I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes and, if I don't screw it up, I think it'll be pretty ok.

I've always liked those silly hats the statues wore, even as a kid. Not sure why... more statues need funny hats.
