Hello to all.

A friend of mine referred me to this forum, and I'm happy to join. I'm a former cigar smoker, and have really enjoyed the switch.

Currently trying to figure out which tobacco and styles suite me best. Scanning e-bay on a daily basis as well, looking for a quality straight grain pipe.

Look forward to talking with you. There is much to learn.

Happy 4th of July.

Welcome Aboard Mr. Classic!! Hey, there is nothing wrong with a W.O. Larsen. Wish I had one.
I have many beautiful straight grained mid-level pipes that smoke like a dream. Look on eBay.
I would concentrate more on what you put in them. Doesn't matter how nice or expensive your pipe is if your not using good tobacco. The right blend makes much more difference to the smoking experience than does the pipe. Of Course if you have a unlimited budget than go for broke on both accounts. TAD before PAD!! I should practice what I preach. Damn ebay!!

Thanks all for the greetings.

SailorJack makes a good point about focusing on the tobacco. I'm all over the map with regards to styles and blends. I'm enjoying a Virginia cake from my local shop at the moment. A couple of weeks ago it was Connoiseur's blend (heavy flavoring).

I really like the cake cut. Seems to burn really nice.

I guess the best thing to do is gather experience, just like I'm doing. Taste everything you can, with the trial and error method.

Any recommendations on how to narrow down my focus? Is there a place to get reviews, or comments on particular blends?

Much Thanks,

Mr. C

Reviews and comments can be found at www.tobaccoreviews.com as well as here at this site. The tobaccoreviews site has thousands of reviews. The reviews there must sometimes be taken with a grain of salt due to a reviewer's bias, etc. The best way I've found to use the site is find a reviewer who has tastes, likes, and dislikes similar to your own and try the tobaccos that he rates highly.

Welcome to BoB. Relax, pack your pipe, and enjoy. Lot's of information here but I'll tell you up front, some of the people here aren't wrapped real tight! :clown:
