Thanks guys...and pontus...welcome to BoB! Glad to have you aboard. I'll bury the knife in some nightcrawler medium and let it get slimed up a little. That aught to help. Well, maybe not. Hey! On the other side of the handle is a glyph carving, incised like the Reindeer, of a bowhunter and Walrus...very ancient art. Next time I could do a fish thing...either that of I couldjust engrave "Fear no Fish" on the blade!?! The outfit from which I bought the blade has quite a number of offernings and there are several fillet blades.

Check out the site. Very good guy to work with.

The blade I got (the progressively tempered Lauri PTX 77 X 20) is here.

I did the 'design your own kit' option and got the blade, a large Reindeer roll, the nickle silver boslter to fit the blade and the sheath. It was actually very reasonable.

Wow, what a handsome pair. I love the pipe silhouette, it has sort of a freehand Castello 55 shape to it. I'm envious of your artistic and woodworking talent!

What to call the shape? It doesn't follow and chart shape. I was initially going to carve a 'Monster' from the block...a contest with Lesath of this site. That kind of went by the by and so it began to follow more of a Large Straight Prince thing...had to keep the plateaux though so it was immediately more freehand than anything. But it has major Italian influences, you're right there, but I'm thinking more Radice. I've got a twin bore rusticated faux bamboo that has the same chin on it (very Italian...el Duce, lol) which is really kind of 'Skater" in profile. But the trailing ridge that flows from the rim down and into the stem (and you can't tell it by the photos but the peak of the ridge goes right through the spacers and then splits on the stem to a kind of 'Y' thing). I had a Brakner Danish Axe once that as I recall had the same kind of trailing spine thing going on. So ultimately, who knows...call it a Flying Prince. There.

I will say that I had wanted the stem to flow in more of a straight line from the front of the bowl to the lip...but that didn't happen. Sometimes that darn things decide for themselves what they're going to be. They're like kids in that regard.

ejames...thanks! And, noting your number of posts and date of membership you might be the newest, or at least one of the newest, members. Allow me to welcome you to the BoB site. I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here. It already appears that you're looking around the various areas...good for you. There's a LOT of amazing information and opportunities here. Let me tell you a really short story...promise...

It was either here or in the DIY section that (way back in September or October of 2011) I posted something about making pipes that were 'Monster" pipes...kinda like some of the Downey models (google Downey Pipes...they're insane, and insanely cool). With that as a start I met a guy that lives in the Ozarks (I'm out on the left coast) and we started going back and forth about this and that. He ended up sending me several billets of damascus steel and with them I've started making knives...the one on this thread is the first one I finished (but a different blade, not the damascus). Now I'm working on the two others that are almost done (yes, there will be a thread dealing with them). And now, on the way to me via the USPS is a knife blank that is a combination of damascus and Siderite (nickle iron meteor). That will be another project. So by meeting that guy here I've started a whole new (to me) line of crafting. Thank you BoB!

Anyway, be all that as it may...it's just one story. And not that this is the Naked City...there are still a million stories here. Make one of them yours.

And again, welcome.

Thanks and thanks, but doubt I'll call 'em. I did the google in 'em and found a couple of addresses & numbers as well. It doesn't look like they are making this flake now, so maybe it's out of production or something. I'll keep looking around, you never know what a different search engine will uncover.

Everyone that's been watching this thread should be warned. I've had the good fortune to see some previews, and rest assured that Blackhorse has been busy honing his craft. Make no mistake, the man is a craftsman and a pleasure to correspond with. Keep running Mr. Horse, and thank you for those crafts you have shared with me.

Some exceptionally fine work!
If I run across a boatload of PAD money I may hit you up for a combo. Love it.
Keep up the fine work and you won't have to worry about cash flow!

Wait til I post the knife I'm working on now...a collaboration betwixt another brother here and a friend of his that's a master smith and damascus maker. I sent them a chunk of meteorite (Siderite, once it hits dirt and becomes a mineral instead of a flyer) and they masterminded and fabricated a couple of knife blanks that are dual in composition. They forged the Siderite into billet form and forge-welded it to damascus steel and shaped the resulting billets into blades. One, (mine) is a 6" long sort of Persian/Nordic shape with the blade edge being damascus and the spine being Siderite. The other blade (which goes to the BoB that set up the forging, is a dagger shape with both edges being damascus with a center of Siderite. I don't think the Siderite retained it's perfect Widmanstätten pattern, as if it had been sliced and exposed...but it's still there in varient form. My blade has so far been shaped to its final form and I'm now working on the handle, which will be Northern Sami style...with a guard carved from damascus and the handle being a combinatioin of black paper micarta, white turquoise and Reindeer antler. The buttcap is thus far planned to be a raw meteorite piece housed in and protruding from a carved disc of ebony. THEN there's the sheath...which I won't even go into as it's even MORE complicated. Why do I do these things to myself? lol

Below is a photo of the blade, about midway through the finishing process.

That is amazing. Please post a few pics of the work as it progresses, and the final product!
