Having almost 80 pipes I have not bought any in over 15 years or so but did give in to temptation back before Thanksgiving and bought a new Svanelli Hercules EX Bulldog. It was one of the sandblasted finished models and folks, it has got to be one of the BEST examples of this form of finish on a pipe I've seen in over 40 years of smoking. This line are all EX in size and they mean Extra Large!! Tobacco chamber is 21mm w x around 50mm d. Overall its 165mm long with a nice flat, wide fishtail vulcanite stem. The bowl is 47mm wide at the widest so it is a substantially size pipe overall. In spite of it's size , it does "hang" in the mouth well though you would want to sit and smoke and hand hold this one for sure. The bowl is pre-carbonized and as i have found with other Sav's their version of this does help in facilitating break-in well. It comes in a nice reddish-brown stain and has darkened quite nicely since I've been smoking it for 2 mo's now. I've seen no evidence of fills in it yet, though I'm sure it might have some. As far as it's smoking qualities I have to say this is one of the NICEST pipes I have EVER smoked!! Been breaking it in with my usual McC's Oriental #14 and have had no "gurggle" or wet smoking at all ! I liked this pipe so much that I ordered the smooth version of it as soon as Smokingpipes.com got one in. It is doing the same as the blasted one and I'm now looking at one of the Lumbermans (Blasted) as my next pipe!! For those wanting a BIG classically shaped pipe, especially in the blasted finish, though the smoothe is as nice, I can heartily recomend one of these!! :) :)

Nice pipe congratulations. I have the same pipe that I bought from Frenchy used many years ago. Mine is my travel pipe, as I travel on my motorcycle a good deal. Mine stays in my tank bag, when I am not smoking, and it has been left out by the campfire many a cold night. Not going to claim it is my best smoking pipe, but very serviceable and durable.

have 2 of the Herc's, an 803 & 114. both have been in the top 5 in the rotation since the day they arrived. would love to have the bull Dog in the Matte finish. but with 30 pipes already it's tough to convince "She who must be obeyed" that I really need another one.
