Non-alcoholic cleaner for internals of the pipe

I suppose you could make do scraping the bores out with a drill bit. There might be some commercial cleaner/degrease product used in food service that might cut the tar. I think all the Bee Sweet like pipe products are alcohol based.  :shock:

Personally I just go with denatured alcohol, purchased by the gallon down at the local hardware shop and leave the reinvention of the wheel to those with the inclination.  :fpalm: :evil:

That's what I took from to too, Ron. I am thinking he means non-drinking types of spirits. If, in fact, the OP is looking for non-alcohol based cleaners, then it's a different story entirely.

Ditto, used spirits untill I got on this stuff and with the price of are alcohol it's cheaper and works great, no need to use anything else.

Even works on getting rid of some of those nasty harsh English blends some of you are smoking in a some of the estates I've bought. :lol!:

Since I started smoking a pipe 50 years ago, I've been using whatever suitable booze was at hand, usually 80 proof and Irish on the last half-inch of a pipe cleaner. For about the same time, I've been reading that this kind of liquid restorative is suitable for people but definitely not pipes. Yet, my pipes have been satisfied with the results. On those occasions when I've used "pipe refreshers," I didn't care for the sweet smell and taste. And the result was no better than my already-have-it 80-proof cleaner. Are we dealing with an urban legend, here? Piper's Choice, I'd say.
