Bet it'll hit 2k, but then it's the first Patent Inner tube w/case I've ever seen !! And UNSMOKED at that ! But I bet it won't get smoked either at that price! It's passed out of the "smoking " range

I bid $.05, EVERYTHING should cost $.05 !

Saw this this pipe and was duly impressed. I like it alot. I could say that I'm going to try to get it but I'd be lying. Not sure my wife or wallet could stand it. You know how many GBD and Edwards pipes I could buy for what that pipe is going to sell for? I wouldn't even smoke the Dunhill but I can have a grand ol' time with GBD's and Edwards. The decision was a no brainer. No brainer? What decision? But then it does have some fine credentials... :)

AJ

Wow, an unsmoked pipe from 1925, unbelievable.

Amen to that AJ! "Credentials" and "pride of ownership" only go so far IMHO - and it aint nearly as far as this one appears to be headied! :p

I'd thought to recommend it for BoB Pipe of the Year.  But then, I remembered there was only one.  But then, I thought: That's more than enough.

Why is it nobody but the meerschaum makers offer pipes in those cases anymore?

Does the section between the Ao and Dunhill look like scratches were left in the build?

I saw why it is an inner tube.  That's almost as well done as a drug store stinger. The wood is about as plebeian as it gets.

All in all, I can see why nobody wanted to smoke it.

Good point. Would like an answer to that myself. I would prefer a fitted case instead of the flimsy "sock". To answer the question myself I suppose it's a way for the manufacturer to make a little more money by "chumping" us off with a cheap bag. :x

The problem with an old pipe like this is the wood is all dried up and hard. The moment one sets fire to tobacco in this pipe, the briar will also catch fire and be destroyed in minutes. I won't spend a dime on it.

I'll have to admit I don't understand the "collector" mindset; guns that aren't shot, rods that aren't fished, guitars that aren't played, whisky that's not drunk, and yes, pipes that aren't smoked are worthless to me.

I agree 100%. I do not want stuff I can't use.

I've never been much of a collector.  In some areas, I wanted qualty/name/status but that never extended to pipes -- sporting goods mostly.

I do respect those who like to collect though.  Stamp collectors can't use them to mail something.  Coin collectors will never spend them.  Watch Antiques Roadshow for a host of other collectables.

Part seem gaining knowledge and expertise and we see that here.  Not a bad pastime and even profitable for some.  Sure beats that Franklin Mint stuff people collect.

$2551.00. I really don't have a problem with it, nor do I see it as any sort of abomination. It's a museum piece. I've seen uninspiring Dunhills of modern manufacture go for double that price just because they had a bunch of stars stamped on them. At least this piece offers something in the way of pristine historical signifigance.
