Not a fan of freestyles, but thought this was strangely appealing. And how did he cut it out? The block was left intact, or at least appears that way. Six grand, give or take.

A very sharp scroll saw with a rather patient operator. :D
He gave up before he finished the pipe.  I wonder why?  Maybe he fell ill?  One will never know
The pipe lifts out of the briar block. Everyone understands that, right?

Well sorry; I know I'm an old fart and a traditionalist, but they'd pretty much have to pay me to own either of them.

Nothing that I am putting a damn flame to is worth that much $$$.

Give me a well engineered billiard, pot or bulldog made from a humble piece of well cured briar and I am set.

Yes...in the order of bulldog, billiard or pot for me :D

I just adore the bulldog shapes, whether straight or bent.

And yes, I wont' buy a pipe which is so expensive or grand that I won't smoke it. I'm not an "art collector", I'm a pipe smoker

I can completely appreciate the pipes mentioned above for the artistic and collector value. They're beautiful, but as I'm not really a collector (more of an "accumulator") I don't know that I will be buying a pipe in that price range anytime soon.
The most expensive pipe that I have purchased, and incidentally my first hand made/artisan class, is a Charl Goussard dark sandblast brandy with orange/black cumberland stem. I purchased it from Blue Room Briars (Thanks Charl! Thanks Jesse!!), and it will be mine until someone inherits it from me.

Speaking of inheriting pipes... this set had to have been passed down for generations until until it wound up in South Carolina. Quite a beautiful set, a complete set, and in such good condition for being 119 years old. Antique Barling Four Pipe Set (1898)
If you bought this set in the link above, would you smoke them?

- Adam

I would most likely build them a nice shadow box for them and hang them on a wall.....

Adam, I for one would smoke them. I have other briar pipes of that age and they smoke well. The only thing you have to watch is they tend to be drilled very tight and will tend to smoke hot and wet.
