A couple of years ago, one of the two individuals responsible for this blend sent me a 4 ounce sample. I showed it away into the cellar with the already too many open tins that I have and forgot about it. Well, I found it today. So, I fired it up.

From what I remember being told, this blend consists of two burley tobaccos. No Virginia. What I found it to be was a really, really good burley blend with a slight atural tasting sweetness and no bite.None of the sourness of some burley blends either. Frankly, it was just pretty damned wonderful.

I checked on their website and at $51.00 a pound plus shipping, they won't be hearing from me but I'll sure enjoy what I have left. :x

I had to look it up. I have never bought anything from Park Lane. It says it's a remake of LL Bean 'Special Blend'. Sounds like a nice burley to try an ounce or two of sometime.

Park Lane's Red Paramour a.k.a. (Red Crack) is pretty damn good. Doesn't surprise me one bit that they have other tasty blends in their stable.

When it comes to burley, I am a Peretti man. Their burley blends are pretty hard to beat.

Thanks for the feedback. It sounds like something I might enjoy. I'll try a couple of oz of Fireside in my next order from them.

Drums, I don't like Red Paramour. It's too heavily cased and I can't taste the tobacco. My favorite is the Connoisseurs Flake. I buy a pound of it every other year.

Have you ever tried the Scottish Flake? While C Flake is supposed to emulate the aged stuff...S Flake is the recreation of the fresh stuff...that they used to sell in the Connoisseur Pipe Shop in NY The one Ed Barack or whatever used to carve pipes for? Right. Anyway, two sides of the same coin.

And their Orient 1 is great as well.

I don't like Red P either.

Hmm. I'll have to revisit Red Paramour. I remember liking it and my notes on it were favorable, but then again I do enjoy sweeter mixtures from time to time. I don't recall it being heavily cased, but it has been a while since I had it last.

No, I've never tried Scottish Flake, Blackhorse. I'll include it in my next order, too. But I've never tried any of Ed Burak's blends, therefore I cannot compare.

If you smoke Connoisseurs Flake you smoke the blend that was declared the closest match in a juried event done by Park Lane after Ed's store closed. The Scottish Flake was judged the next closest to the original Connoisseurs Flake.

One was thought to be a match to Connoisseurs Flake fresh out from the shop and the other was declared to be a match to it, well aged.

There's a long back story behind all this, but that's the crux.

Both, while slightly different to me, are a delight.

And...do try at least a sample of their Orient 1. My favorite Park Lane blend.

Do yourself a favor and see if you can have Paul blend up some bulk for you. I have purchased several 8oz. tins in the past and they are definitely not the same IMHO. The bulk that I have is SUBLIME!!!!! :king:

Kneejerk interjection: I believe Ed Burak was the owner of the CPS, and designed the pipes that he had someone else carve. He gave this tobacco with every pipe he sold me. (Two or three.) Back to regular scheduled programming.

I've had none of the tobaccos in this thread and haven't even seen one of Ed's pipe designs in person yet. But it's all so appealing, great thread guys.

Park Lane Luxury Scottish Flake, Orient Express Scene 1, and Red Paramour are all fine blends and have a regular place at chez Brewdude. Not familiar with any others.
