After more than 5 years.....I managed to get some.

I have an identical quantity coming in shortly. I will write a review to share if this was worth it.

Glad you finally scored. Hope your expectations will be met. :)

Congratulations, this is one I haven't managed to find yet. When you can please write up your impressions if you don't mind.

Rob, I will. But it'll be in a while as I suspect these babies will need some aging on them before I crack one open. I just don't know if I will have the discipline.

Open the foil bag and put the tins in the cellar. The bags sometimes have small holes in them and aren't the best suited for long term storage. You can divide the bag into four jars. Smoke one now, and put the rest on the shelf. Enjoy!

If it were me, I would jar the 8oz bag for aging, and smoke at least one of the tins right now.

If we were talking straight ginny weed, I would definitely wait and put some age on it. Sure a Lat blend will improve slightly in a couple years, but not enough to wait 2 years without smoking any of it.

Penzance is a special tobacco for several reasons. Most of the negative responses you may have read, are due to the frustration of trying to obtain it, and the higher prices that some folks try to scalp out of it.

Personally I think there are a lot of great Lat blends available, but if I walked into my local tobacconist and spotted an 8oz bag or tin for sale, I would surely take it straight to the register.

Maybe it's just me, but I prefer about any of the Esoterica line right off the conveyor belt and not aged. I think their flavors are best when new.

Congrats on the score. Hope you like it.

My two cents, crack those tins and set aside a little to smoke now and jar up the rest. Almost every small rectangular tin from Germain that I have owned, from Brown Flake to Special Latakia Flake to Penzance has lost its seal in 2-3 years time. There are folks who will tell you the same about the bags as well. Personally I believe the bags are designed for tobacconists to receive, open and sell the contents by the ounce and not for long term storage. The newer shiny Arango labeled gold bags are an improvement over the old cream colored ones.

I have a tin I bought seven years ago that I'll prolly never smoke.
I lost my taste for Latakia and it hasn't come back.

Guys, thanks so much for your advices; and infos about the reliability of the bags for long - term storage. I really appreciate!

Dutch: I will closely monitor the tins.

Sell it for $100 and buy stuff you will smoke. That's probably an exaggeration. You could get $50 I'm sure.

Nice score. If you have more coming, go ahead and crack one of those tins and enjoy. It's already got some age on it from the manufacturer. My 1st tin I opened was very pungent with a very unique aroma. The 2nd one I opened, later down the road, seemed a little subdued on the nose. I think the 1st one had more age on it because the wax paper had absorbed more oils and moisture and was much darker than the 2nd. I have a tin from '09 so we'll see when I crack that.

One of the local b&m shops gets in tinned Penzance. I bought them out once but only got through a tin. Good stuff but I'm not much of a Latakia guy. What I can get through in terms of latakia has more to do with my idiosyncrasies than quality. Imho, all Esoterica tobaccos are of fine quality. It's just a matter of finding your taste. Congrats, enjoy.

Here too. Pretty much all the Latakia I've opened over the the last few years has ended up drying up to dust in the tin. It's a shame, because I used to really love the stuff.

Juan I noticed a whole back on your profile you don't like latakia much. you don't care for commonwealth either?

Never had it. I have a couple to try at home including aged Perfection. Sam Malloy's Stout #4, or something like that. I like Key Largo which contains latakia. I can sample a latakia blend and enjoy it, I just don't have enough interest to finish a tin before it dries out. The new glaring exception is MacBaren HH Vintage Syrian. Eklektos sent me some of that and it just hit me right and I smoked right through it without fatigue.

Give commonwealth a try. I know you like lakelands so if you haven't tried squadron leader that and commonwealth are tops. GH balkan mix is good too but different...way more salty. I love commonwealth it's gotta be the best latakia blend ever
