Gentlemen,

Just cracked a tin of PCCA Beacon (dated 2006) which I traded for with one of the great folks on this board (you know who you are) a while back. I am smoking it as I type. My God! Truly, a thousand thanks!!! This is one of the most complex, buttery yet utterly refreshing VAPERS I have had in some time. Proper review forthcoming time permitting ...

Beacon is pretty damn good. I hope McClelland doesn't change a thing now that they have full control over it.

Now I can't wait....I just traded for two tins of the stuff....... :bounce:

You will be rewarded, I guarantee it. In December I bought two of the new McClelland marked tins, although will probably let those sit for a time. I may buy more, but would prefer ones with more age if they are anything like the PCCA tin that I am smoking from right now. It is my only one of that vintage - alas.

I just bought a tin of Beacon extra at my local B&M yesterday and talk about a rush of Ketsup smell attacking you when you pop the tin open. :affraid: :affraid: :affraid:

I was looking for something very heavy laden with Perique and that is what he suggested.

I don't mind the ketchup, or BBQ sauce, or Worcestershire sauce smell at all. Does not bother me in any of their blends. I just wish that more of their blends had strength. Most have strength of flavor, often not much in the way of kicking you in the pants strength.

Speaking of Beacon. I have tins aging in the cellar, but have yet to try it. Looking forward to it.

I popped a tin of the McC marque Beacon almost immediately when I got it, and it was delicious, but young--a little more bright than rounded. Gladly, my shelf has a few more tins for the 5 and 10+ milestones.

Beacon and Aurora are a couple of my favorite blends. I have many tins of both from PCCA and McC and dont think they have changed much. Open the tin up dump it out mix it up a bit let it sit and get some air put it back in the tin or jar what ever your preferance and let it sit for a few days then smoke away. Just the way i do it but to each his own.

Maybe it was just my tin (fresh off the shelf) but beacon was a little sharp for me. Could someone maybe... umm... enlighten me with an aged tin? Fair trader, I swear.

Beacon Rocks!!! very good stuff but the version I have smoked is much younger, it must be brilliant KAP!!!!!

I tried my second bowl of Beacon Extra last night and WOW, what is the flavor that you get at the initial lite? ....the Perique? :suspect:

Anyway, it was cold outside on the deck, but I was smoking this in the small bowl Quiet Comrade pipe I have. It had too much draw resistance so after the first re-lite, I yanked the filter out and got just a fantastic flavor, zippy, zesty, making me a little too enthusiastic with the puffing, but never got any bite at all. I started out being really pissed off at my boss and knew I needed to smoke at least 2 bowls last night of something, so I had a bowl of Penzance. Then I loaded up the Beacon Extra and the next thing I know I have let a 1/2 hour go by, and I'm only down a half a bowl and now the flavor has completely changed with no peppery sizzle, just a smooth flavor that I still can't describe ( sorry, that's the newbie in me). Darned if that small bowl lasted almost an hour with me not wanting to go inside until I finished it, having to grip Ole' Willy because I had to pee really bad, but I was grinning at the pleasure of how well that whole hour changed flavor wise. This was the second bowl since I opened the tin, so should I leave the top open for a couple of hours before I smoke some more of it? :?:

This could be the turning point for me, as I tried some Aromatics today at lunch and ended up dumping out the bowl when I got 1/2 way down. It just didn't have any real flavor, and I was going to initially have a screen name of Aromatic Man....glad I didn't do that.

Ah this is the thread that got me to add the Beacon & Beacon Extra. Looking forward to getting it next week to try.

I just LOVE it! Unfortunately I'm rationing my last tin looking forward to order more and more! However I was wondering if exists a valid bulk alternative to it with the same creamy and buttery tones(just to fill ad libitibum my poorished cellar!). Maybe mcclelland 2015 can be an answer?

Beacon is incredibly delicious at the ten year mark, even better every year after that.
