These have, today, passed the sitter as my favorite shape.

I enjoyed my Silver Spigot today. Just the right size, and weight.

That combination of length and chamber size / geometry is a golden mean for flakes that people find their way to sooner or later. Often they're very pleasantly surprised when they do. I know I was with a Peterson 80S, way back when.

You've got more or less the same basic parameters with old-school bent bulldogs, princes, authors & apples.

Definitely one of my favorite shapes, particularly the older, chubby versions or a silver spigot.

Hey now - I really do enjoy VA Flakes once in a while. Of course I also like a good Aromatic and the occasional English blend too. 8)

:lol!:

Sorry, Yak, just messin with ya. :D

The 999 is my favorite shape.

I plan on adding more of them to my pipe rack!

Had to search what a Pete 999 was... yall are gonna kill my savings, you know this right?

Check estates on Ebay, 999's in lower grades are under $100 pretty frequently.

Since we are all talking about our 999's let's ee some pics :p I've three and here's the pics of two that I have. First is a Donegal Rocky I bought back in the early 70's when they were a sandblasted finish;

And my newest I got last year, my Rosslare:

I have a Kilarney bought sometime in the 70's but no pic of it. Both of my older ones LOVE Balkans having had a LOT of 759 smoked in 'em over the years and my Rosslare is LOVING my Royal Blend it gets fed on a regular basis! I don't think Peterson makes a bad one regardless of price point :p

Pete's bulldogs and Rhodesians are (debatably) their best pipes, if you ask me. The 408 is about the only other shape I'm intrigued by, as the dimensions are about the same. We shall see. :)

I love both of my 408s I have. They make me want more of them.

I have a few, photos in this thread: https://www.brothersofbriar.com/t20276-dressed-to-the-nines

Great shape no doubt. A classic rhodesian IMO. My 999's are an old Kapet - simple and unadorned but and an absolutely brilliant smoker and an even older, pre-republic shamrock - nickel band with faux hallmarks and all! It too is a superb pipe. P-lips all around, just the way they should be. :p

I remember that post PD and that "chubby" 999 is OUTSTANDING!! And THANKS for getting the thread back on topic

Stay on topic, Monbla, thanking PD is irrelevant to 999 discussion. But also, your Rosslare 999 is what I want to get in the "yellow stem" line. You know, along with eight other variations... :|

I hate you, sometimes, Peterson.

Both the 80S and the 999 are my favorite Pete shapes. In any finish.

80S/999 geometry is un-improve-able. (Chamber size, Height-to-width ratio, distance from chamber to button).
