So, I have had it before on and off in the past. Recently traded for a pouch in the box pass. Last week purchased a 12-pouch case ($35 shipped, not a bad deal at all), and have been smoking it on and off in a small cob. I really, really am taking a liking to this classic American birdseye-filled, mean old shag cut Burley. I have found that one does need to be careful with it (duh), but the more I smoke it the more I like it. Perhaps it is the hot summer weather? I would add that I've experimented with blending it with a bit of a number of different VAs, and boy is that ever nice. I've also rolled it (how could I not, given the cut?), but found that just a bit too much - even for a confirmed nicophile as myself. I am tempted to put a bit in the mortar and pestle as well so as to see how it snuffs (I've done this with some Lakeland ropes before, and man does that ever perk one up!).

I have already jarred up about half of the carton, and am seriously thinking about ordering another carton or two.

Any general thoughts from those who regularly enjoy Five Brothers? Any and all comments would be greatly appreciated.

Rolling it's a good way to cut down on the number of cigs you go through in a day.

At least I always found it did. Especially in wintertime when it's dry.

Pouches now ? Used to be paper bricks.

I've been on a 5 Bros kick too Kap. Pretty much did the same thing you did and purchased a full carton of them. While I've been digging it on its own I've had a great time blending it into other blends to up the vit N content. Really liking 5100 x 5B at the moment, at least in the morning before the heat and humidity get really bad.

That sounds quite good; I will open a jar of 5100 and give it a whirl! Do you go half-half, or less or more of one or the other?

Not an exact science as I eyeball it but I go somewhere between 50-66% 5100 (+/-)

Sure, I have just been mixing up as I go as well (a pinch to a pinch or thereabouts, etc.), sometime even tossing in a bit from the old hodgepodge jar. I'll give the 5100 a go. Thanks for the recipe!

1. The 5Bros, formerly of American Tobacco via the Finzer bros manufacturers, sold in a paper cylinder, guarenteed to dry up although there are those who like the tobacco dry.

2. I will smoke it straight in a cob, then Ropp cherrywood, then meer for that kicked-in-the-jaw nicotine fix.

3. Store the foil pouches in an old tupperware container, the old salad bowls with the burping lid work wonders on maintaining the right moisture.

4. 5Bros mixes well with other burleys. One of my favorites was to mix 5bros 1:1 by weight with ERRd, or with SWReg or KyClub Blue. All of these combinations work well for the start of the day smoke. Best, IMO, in a big-bowled briar.

Sadly, 5Bros is the last of a long line of outstanding string cuts (others were Cutty Pipe, Honest, Ivanhoe, Penn's Stripped leaf), all of which offered an unusual but beneficial smoking experience.

Thus Spoke Morleyson!! How are you Sir? Ken
Alive, barely, and, hopely, if I may retire, to be born again. Thanks for asking. I trust that you are also well. I've missed the mature banter and insights of this august group. Reminds me a bit of a tavern at the end of a pier in an old maritime community, sort of a crossroads for the misbegotten. Eugene O'Neill is out there.

Great to see you post Bob!!! You have been missed and hopefully you are up to posting more often!

I did I 3:1 mix of Walnut to 5Bros and liked it; gave the last mix I had to Justpipes yesterday. His initial impression was that it took out some of the sweetness of Walnut.

I have smoked it straight and found it wanting.

I think this is a great mixing tobacco to give a blend a bit of punch.

A bit of a punch no doubt! As per suggestion, I've recently tried mixing it with some 5100. The mixture of cuts is interesting (still burns just fine). I'll certainly try some other combinations over time - glad to get all this good advice on the stuff here in this thread! Keep 'em coming.
