After years of dragging this pipe rack around the country I finally got a chance to finish it.

Very nicely done Oz! I see you rabbited the shelf. Quality workmanship there. So many people don't bother with little details like that because its not supposed to support any real weight. I say if your gonna do it do it right. Good on ya!

Very nice looking rack you have there. (Wish I could say that all the time and not get slapped). J/k. You did a nice job of finishing that one. Wish I could find one similar to put my pipes on.

Full disclosure, I did not actually build the pipe rack. I bought it around 12 years ago unfinished. Since then I deployed, moved, divorced, moved, married, moved, divorced again, and move a few more times. It has followed me in it's original shipping box all the while. I stumbled upon it's box during spring cleaning and decided to finish it. The stain I made from a mixture of tea, vinegar and steel wool then varnished it. I’m pleased with the results. I am however making a matching tobacco shelf to go alongside of this rack to store my small surplus of tobacco.

Good call there. It's so disappointing to see something nice like this and then see under the shelf and discover it's just sitting on three or four little blocks nailed to the inside. What's worse is sometimes when you see that the block aren't made from the same wood so they never look to match when stained. Seriously, no one is saving any cost on those little blocks. A heartbreaker. On this one, very nicely done. Definitely better than I could accomplish.

Well, I just saw the post about staining it. My hat is still off to you brother. Consistency and coverage look really good and it has a nice classic appearance. Job well done.

That is a beatuiful pipe rack, absolutely stunning!!! A magnificent addition to any smoker's den or man cave.
